I just read the whole read, and I had been watching your other thread. Thanks for posting, I'm pulling for you to be on the water this summer.

Also if the name big dirty comes from The Trailer Park Boys - I like it.

Thanks man, I'm gona do my best... if it ever warms up, its gona be an awesome summer with water up higher that it has been in years (my area anyway) and if i can get into a slip at a different marina (cheaper, filling up fast.. but no point dropping $1000 for a slip with my boat in this condition...) that will make 5 people i know, all in the same place... should be some good dock party's and fun to be had...

.. ya, that's pretty much where it came from, but you're the first to pick up on it.

first things first... got all the pieces of her skeleton glued back in with PL and screwed to.. uh, itself..

took about 10 tubes of the stuff...

And THIS was the best tool purchase I made in the last little while... battery powered calking gun, variable speed... runs off the same batteries as the rest of my ryobi (one+ 18v series) and WOW does it make things easier to do! Well worth the $70 if you ask me :)

Managed to go out and get silly stupid drunk after that on friday  so saturday was a bit rough for me, but I got the shop cleaned a bit and wiped everything down with acetone in preparation for the glass... helped a friend with his boat sunday, and did a bit more partying with some friends that nite... but kept it to minimum, then went to town on it yesterday. 9 hours straight roughly, but got the bulk of it... well, 'phase one' anyway. It wasn't nearly dried today, so I did a few touch ups and set a fan on the swim platform and opened the hatch.. hopefully its all good to go in a day or so..

new layout is cool and all...but having issues editing posts.. wanted to add some text to the end of the last one, but it keeps putting the cursor above the last pic, and hyperlinking it... (like it thinks its part of the code from photobucket?) anyway...

If this all dries and looks ok, the next step is the main bulkhead and side/battery shelves, maybe this coming weekend if weather and funding holds out  The 'BIG' stuff is almost done though, almost to the point of throwing all the stuff and things back in her, and re attaching the back section for the engine covers and windows.. then its mechanical time (drive service/repair, new manifolds, electrical repair/re routing) and a bit of cleaning... might make it in by the end of June.. If not, well.. theres still two more good months after that..

Ya, it was good and cured by the time I started glassing, had a few oops moments though, ran into a couple spots I dripped PL and didnt get it off the hull... really makes a big bubble trying to lay matting over it.. grrrrrr The temp dropped down on me yesterday, so its still a bit wet in spots tonite.. gona give it another day before I climb back in to finish the bulkhead and side shelves.

Soooo.... I tore the old helm seat apart tonite for something to do. The PO (captain home depot) REALLY made a mess of this... The bottom of all the sides were rotten about 3" up, so they figured 2 pieces of 3/8" ply screwed together, and some metal angle brackets would be just fine for a base... and the rotten remains would support it... right? I'll post some pics shortly...

Didnt take much to remove the base, as only 4 or 5 screws were actually holding anything... Lots of decking and sheet metal screws in here... hmmm...just dont seam right..

You can see how far rotten it was, and obviously LEFT LIKE THAT when this hack job was done... didnt even try to fix the rotten sides or back at all... wonder why the flip out rear seat was JAMMED and so hard to pull out? The weight of the whole thing was just crushing it...

I'm planing on chucking this whole thing after a season anyway, in favour of a pedestal seat and some redesign and modification of the whole back deck seating, but i just couldnt put it back in like it was, so I used some scraps and off cuts I had and rebuilt the lower frame as best I could.. The material should pull over it, and I can trim the bottom in teak or plastic sheet if its too messed up. Also think it makes for a better way to re-attach it to the boat, with the 4" strips hanging inside, rather than the 2x2 bolted to the deck, and the two 3/8" pieces deck screwed to them... (and it wasnt even done square or hidden, stuck out about 2" around the footprint ofthe helm seat.... terrible....)

Few staples here and there, some more white duct tape and shes good to go! hehhehheh

So are you not using PB for bedding or fillets? just curious as I am about to go down that road.

I used PL premium construction adhesive for bedding and filleting... but if I were to do it again, or on another boat, I think I would do PB. The PL seamed to have a fairly short working time, and in some spots didn't work out as well as I would have liked.

Wow! BD...just getting caught up with the goings on around here after the "forum restoration" and I gotta say...you are making Warp speed look slow!
Way to go, man...looking really, really good! You'll be getting this baby wet real soon...

Yea, the PL stuff is falling out of favorites, since it needs a fairly long cure time before you can apply the resin soaked tabbing. Some folks have ended up with a mess on their hands when the resin loosened the PL. Your progress has been quite remarkable, probably a land speed record for a restoration. :thumb:
