Set your regulator on 40#. Turn the Paint volume up fairly high. Turn the fan down all the way closed and then open it up till it just starts to fan open all the way. Spray at about 12 to 16" away from the surface. That's my recommendation for your starting point. Try it and adjust your settings from there.:D

Stopped by the boat to make sure I had a fitting somewhere in the garage for the spaygun, the HF purple does'nt come with one. Also shaped the second layer of the shark bite.

Preliminary gun assembly just to make sure everything fits. I still need to tear down the gun and clean it. There was no goop in the threads (Thanks woody for the video heads up), apparently this gun has had a revision or two and they have fixed a few things. One being the goop and two swapping out the trigger screw that commonly backed off for some type of rivet or clevice pin setup.

I slopped some primmer on here because I was in a rush, needed to build up and I knew I had more sanding to do. i'll dial it in and put two light coats in the morning.

Thanks ma man! All painting tips are very welcome ;)

I cut your 1 qt of paint recipe in half, does this look right?? I'm terrible with math... I have no idea how much paint it will take to first coat all my parts so i figured ill just mix what fits in the 20 ounce gun cup (primary reason for doing a 16 ounce batch)

1/2 qt Paint (16 0nces)
1/8 cup Acetone (1 Once)
1/4 cup Reducer (2 Onces)

Also, how will I know to thin the recipe? Will it be obvious?

What is the desired consitency besides for what flows nicely through the gun? :) the consistency of whole milk? 2% milk? or non fat milk? :D

If thinning is needed are there any other reducing agents (besides the reducer)?

I was also thinking my parts are hung pretty close together, I wasnt worried when priming but now that im getting ready to paint is it realistc to have them so close? I was thinking of hanging a piece of cardboard as i go to protect the adjacent piece from over spray...

I have one of those little purple guns for bike frames or small stuff and another little bit better quality HVLP for body panels.. They shoot pretty good, it's all in the setup. along with that gun I bought this regulator/filter: http://www.harborfreight.com/industr...tor-68247.html and run another inline regulator on the gun itself. This was single stage urethane out of the cheapo spray gun

So I get to the boat and start the purple gun disassembly. The gun doesnt come with a nozzle wrench. I was like "ok... you got me..." that's the oldest one in the book. Not the bait and switch.... i call this the bait and twitch!!! LOL 15 for the gun and whatever price for the wrench!! :D:facepalm: still cant complain tho at that price. So I call HF for the wrench..... they dont have it! c'mon central pneumatic!, i dont care that you didnt include the wrench but dont slot the nut so that nobody can remove it with a standard open end wrench!!! Geez! So i wrap a coat hanger around the slot, cover with a towel and gently turn with a vice grip... no dice. It wont budge. After leaning on it, it moves.... Woody was right, there was pipe puddy or silicone everywhere...

You can see where I boggard up the parts trying to seperate them with all that junk on there...

Some of the silicone got in the holes during the factory assembly process... seven oclock and two oclock

I could probably take this gun back or just fiddle with it to get it to work. Ultimately, I decided to order Woodys recommended gun and hope my compressor can keep up.

The gun Mickey posted will work fine and the xtra tips justifies the cost. The purple HF guns ALWAYS need cleaning for the silicon but they work fine for a while, I have a bunch of them I bought when under 10 bux. I did get wrenches with them, in fact, I have a drawer full of them.

Like I said, any of these cheap guns will be almost as good as the DV starting or finish line. But when you get good, the quality of finish cant be beat using a top of the line Binks, Sata, Iwata, ect.......that's where speed, flow, and atomization come to play.......just always check gun requirements to compressor output....

Save it and drill out the nozzle with a 5/64th drill bit and use it for shooting gelcoat. My old purple gun looks like it's been run over by a truck but it still shoots primer really well. I use it all the time with the 1.8mm nozzle. Works GREAT!!! If you put that thing back together you'd be surprised how well she'd work. Sure wish I lived across the street. A bit of cardboard hanging on the garage door to practice on and about 10 mins to practice and you'd be painting like a PRO!!!:bounce:

They are great for sacrificial guns too Wood lol...I sprayed thinned POR15 thru the stock tip, and threw it away after......I think Trooper drilled out his for his gel sprays..IIRC

Hey zool, the TCPglobal G6600 comes with 1.3, each additional tip is $19 bucks. The G6600 definitely looks like it would outlast the purple. Thanks for the info!

It may be a long shot but ima try to see if i can exchange the purple for a new one, then start looking around for a spannor wrench. Then maybe i'll drill out the hole.

My G6600, 1.8 and 2.5 tips will be here on the 12th. Meanwhile I'll do some more prep on the parts while im waiting. Also gonna get my cardboard ready!!! :bounce:

HD didnt have the correct threads to make some dummy plugs for my trim cylinders, any idea where I can find something to use as plugs? Chewing gum doesnt seem to work when there is oil on the other side:D

Maybe a break shop? I could always just put the hoses back on and tape them up...

Yea, I goggled it, it came up as a 1.4 tip with others avail....seems fine for the price,,,,,pick

what u like, based on what else they give with it....TCP global is great, I buy from them....

The Mystique of the Purple HF gun WAS the fact hat is was a Sata Clone, maybe around the 2000 series Sata....I never compared the two, but that's the myth,,,but the draw to the product and reviews afterwards, gave the gun cred. Its hit or miss in this gun market,

Hello
I used a 2x2 peice of paper towel and made a cone withe a drop of hydro oil on it and smashed it in place. It removed easily with a pick when I was done painting.

I drew a self character of me on my "learn to paint" cardboard. My niece comes outside to the garage to visit. She draws herself next to me with a heart holding my hand!!!! She's the sweetest thing ever!!!!!! I forgot to tell her mom she drew herself with church shoes on :D
