Should i go for the 3/32 nozzle? or buy a gun that was made for paint?

Hey Goldie, good to see u cranking along....

Rusto and Magic are similar air cured enamels chemically....adding the hardener brings either closer to a 2 part solvent cured paint system. Straight enamel will remain semi soft after cure, but hardened it dries quicker with a harder shell..and dry quicker when spraying giving less runs ..it will be more durable, a bit glossier, and easier to keep polished clean...that's about it.

BTW those guns youre looking at aren't really the best bang....the HF pro gun is an air hog..requiring a ton of air to catalyze......and the starting line DV isn't any better than ur typical china knockoff. If u want the gun just for a few projects, then the purple HF guns will do fine if u clean them before using...and they only use like 6cfm...the HF pro sucks 15cfm/40psi.....if u want a gun to use regularly, its better to get an upper range gun like the devilbliss gti, or a binks m1g or Iwata....

bottom line is, the low end brand name guns are no better then the 20 dollar gunsm just 3-5 time more money. JMO

Thanks Zoom! Thats good to know. I could try the HF purple for 10 bucks and if it doesnt work out, no loss, other than the time to re prep the part

Another aspect is im not a "painter" so even if i had a iwata or sata or dv gti i wonder how much of a difference it would make?

I have to decide to invest in a decent gun or go purple....

If this is legit, its an awesome deal on a DV GTI

http://www.ebay.com/itm/DeVILBISS-GT...484351&vxp=mtr

I need to do some more research, it says Dv on the gun but ebay saler calls the manufaturer binks

That gti isn't an hvlp, its the siphon model...and devilbliss bought binks a while back

the thing is, the gun matters less than the painter, you can get ur feet wet with the purple HF, then upgrade a little later, and use the HF for primers after that,

gotta run, BBL

Goldie, unless you plan on painting a LOT of Stuff after you're done with the boat, AND you want to do it PROFESSIONALLY...I'd really recommend you just go buy One of these from Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pro-1-3mm-HV...-/191152896342
You can buy the nozzles from TPC Global I've used this On ALL my projects and yeah it takes a bit more Air to operate, but my 60 gallon compressor keeps up with it just fine on all of my projects so far. I have a 1.3mm, 1.8 and 2.5mm nozzles for it and can shoot just about anything with it.

Thanks Woody, I just got home from HF. I got the purple, a moister trap, an inline gauge a cleaning kit and Teflon tape for 30 bucks. Forgot the strainers...

The plan is to shoot a part with the purple and see how it goes, if it's not acceptable I'll order the TPC global.

I'm on vacation this week so that played a big part in purchasing the purple and keeping the project rolling.... or should I say.... floating :)

I'll post some pictures, gotta finish up the primer, sand the shark bjte 2ND layer, disassemble the purple, clean it, reassemble and grab a propane tank for the heater

I am impressed with the effort and attention to detail of your painting process. :hail:

I usually just scrub off the corrosion, hit it with a quick coat of primer and then finish it off with the $2 can of black :D

Awwww shucks.... thanks TP, I just want to do the best job I can :) when I retire this boat will be my second home :) I've been secretly stocking up on swim bait's and soft plastics in anticipation for the splash, truth be told though I plan on fishing when I take it to the water for the float test :)
