Nice work HA. It is normal to put a loop into a bilge pump hose, both of mine are routed from the outlet up to underneath the gunwales, then looped and down to the pumps.

Thanks TII:)

Sounds like your rig is well equipped to take several waves over the bow and shake it off as a minor event;)
(don't take that as a challenge:D)

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

I decided to pull the SS out of the garage this morning. She looks nice in some sun for a change.:)

We then spent the afternoon cleaning and organizing the garage.
(you guys know how it gets after a winter of boat storage:D)

Looking pretty good, HA. Must be nice to air her out some. She'll be ready to splash in no time.

With the garage cleaned out we noticed it lacking storage for fishing poles.

Quick survey of materials and this is what we came up with at no cost.

Those are scavenged from a dismantled spice rack. I may use the swivel base for a fish finder.:)

Here I got started cutting the gaps for the rods on the top pieces.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Since the plywood back board is so thin I added a couple supports on the other side.:)

Here's the test run, works well and looks alright too:D

I'm leaning towards painting it grey, but might throw some varnish on it otherwise.

It will stand on it's own fully loaded, but is set up to be attached to a wall as well.

I picked up a flame retardant protective sleeve for the main run from the battery to the bus bar.

The #10 cable is 12' and the sleeve is 10' so it leaves plenty to connect on each end.

We managed to get the area surrounding the splashwell taped and zinc chromated seconds prior to a thunderstorm.

Got the rig back in the garage, as seen in the photos. I did find a rain drop but it should fine:D

I also got a few more coats of paint on the consoles themselves, and also the front console pieces.

OMG, HA. You found a donor kitchen. :p Great use for the rod racks.

Every little bit gets you closer to a splash.

Here's the splashwell after the first coat of light machine grey.

There are quite a few dings and dents so no perfection, but it looks as good as I'd hoped.:)

Nice paint job, it really looks good. As far as dings and dents, I didn't even try to get them all out of mine, I didn't want to obliterate the history! ;) It's just all the holes I fussed over.

Paint job looks good. I didn't try to get any of the dents or dings out of the hull or the trim on mine. Figure it's kind of like wrinkles - adds character and shows experience.

I wouldn't know where to begin to remove these dents, never even crossed my mind, and I agree with you guys.

A boat that's been used is a prettier sight than a non-blemished trailer queen:D

I did leave lots of little holes from the canvas snap-screws, as motivation to get some canvas made eventually:)

I'm hoping to get the gunwales painted soon, so I can start bolting the interior back in place and get the motor installed.

Looks great, splash wells are probably the most tricky areas to work on the boat. As far as the dents, I'm sure they will go unnoticed once the boat gets loaded up with gear. Mine had a trim piece that went over that top rail, I'm not sure if you have that or not. It's also a good spot for a downrigger board too.

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

We got the SS out of the garage since the weather was perfect.:)

She was all taped up in the garage waiting for a decent day to paint the topsides.

The first photo shows the bare metal, followed by some with the self-etching primer.

The conditions couldn't have been better, low wind and humidity coupled by temps in the 70s and no clouds.

I kind of wish the whole boat got painted just because it would've been a great opportunity.
