Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Sometimes it's tough getting a neat bead of 5200 on a long run like that, but it looks like you did a pretty good job. It takes some practice before 5200 becomes your friend. I had to touch up a lot of my 5200 applications with Q-tips, but I'm fussy that way.

Panel looks good the way it is, but do you need the angle along the bottom to stiffen it up at all? It will look good either way I think.

Looking good HA, I think LL is right the angle between the side panels and the floor really tie the two together structually.

As always sir beautiful work! As i read more and more threads and watch people redo their transoms and splashwells i feel as i should have tackled mine. Although upon inspection of bolt holes and so forth I could not find any soft or dark wood soo why is it that the closer to splash i get this funny feeling that there is something I screwed up somewhere that will inherently put me back in dry dock  Oh well.. HA ur work is spot on! Keep up the good work bud! Still following :D

definitely install the angle. also i think think the panel would look nicer reversed so it was slanted in the opposite direction. thats just m though

Little bit closer;)

Yeah, I just made a list and it's looking pretty doable:)

Thanks LL, there are some errant smudges and drops of 5200 all over but once the splashwell and interior transom are painted it should have a clean look.

Thanks Glen, I am going to get the angle attached eventually.

Thanks Piece, no worries on the splashwell, it's not too challenging of a job...I just took forever on mine.

That's actually an illusion, the side panel is a 90 degree rectangle, the boat is obtuse.

Thanks Rockmere, hope so!

Re: '79 Starcraft SS 16 restoration

Made some progress on the boat this afternoon.

I got the 1/2" holes drilled out on the spreader for the bracket bolts.

We also got the cutting board routed out and bolted in place.

The symmetry is not perfect but as a function over form type of person I am happy with the way it's looking.:D

Looks good to me. I think that's one of those things that only you will notice. I have a lot of those on my boat!

I really got to stop following your progress HA!! I keep seeing things that are great ideas and that I should have added to mine! Touche sir!

Hey HA are you worried about water getting behind that board causing corrosion? Did ya put a bead of 5200 around the boarder of the board while mounted? Sorry if i missed it somewhere

HA - As an ex-fil said once "A man going by on a galloping horse won't see it" Besides symmetry is over-rated. It looks good to me.

The board looks great man. I did something similar with a piece of starboard to mount the transducer, pitot, etc without through holes in the hull.

I think I'm going to use the new synthetic lumber deck material to do my bow deck area. Unconventional materials but should be functional and last a long time.

I got to work on an additional deck piece for under the splashwell.

It's needed to support the batteries and gas tanks properly.

For some reason my stringers end short of the transom which has always puzzled me.

I have some leftover Nautolex that might work to get the whole thing covered.

That would help with stuff sliding around back there. We'll see.:)

Here are some photos of the bracket being bolted on.:)

It went well, I had help from a couple buddies and we got things done pretty quickly.

If we need to take a test run this 6 gallon tank is ready.

I'm on the fence as to whether or not I should install the 18 gallon tank permanently or not.

Maybe something to work on later this summer.

Nice work man. Looks perfect. I like the bracket...looks solid as a rock.

The shelf for the batteries is a good idea as well...the nautolex should help keep everything in place.

Nice progress, it sure helps to have an extra pair of hands. Everything looks "built to last".
