Beautiful day...nice and cool this morning...

Too bad I did not have my thinking cap on....forgot to wet the wood ....again...

Just got back from the fishing trip, so excuse me if I'm a little late but,
=, I read what Wood said about spreading it out, but I don't know about the water part, How much do u you on ??? I'm doing the deck tomorrow.
Looking good on the glassing troop.
thanks

Colorado_Boater...So how was the fishing?

I was saying that I forgot to spread out just plain poly resin, not water...before I applied the CSM on the plywood. When you roll (or spread) the resin on plain CSM without wetting the plywood first and allowing it to "tack" then the wood and the CSM are both acting like a sponge and fighting each other for the resin. It takes a lot more resin to get the job done...and you still end up with spots that are "dry"....

Does that make sense?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks, stranger...haven't seen you on in awhile :)

Been working on a boat actually, just its a demo project for work, not 1 of mine:facepalm:. But I did get a chance to shoot w/ an HVLP gun for the first time and get some practice shooting a 2 part resin. Not great, but for a 1st attempt, it went pretty well, esp for shooting outside, in high humidity, full sun & w/ a little wind, all solo, it probably couldn't have gone much better except for having someone to watch the time & the air supply hose.......

Between that, helping & working w/ our crews that are short staffed, dismantling a couple parts boats & attending a boat swap meet, it's been a long couple of weeks. But the vacation for the Admiral's b-day & some boat work (finally) starts next week.:D

Doing a great job on the boat work & the record of it here at iBoats for the next generation:) Or to refer back to when you start your next project:eek:

Not a whole lot of progress tonight...but a little bit..

Got a new sending unit...a universal deal...I wanted to bend the wire to match what was in the tank before...plenty of wire...

However...the new unit travels a full 90? and the old one only went ~45?....soooooo.....

I got this...

Thinking I went a little tough on the rubber gasket?...

Rough cut the Bilge area from rear deck piece...

I still need to be able to get gas from the tank to the carb....

need a Tank Withdrawal tube...anyone make their own before? What type of tubing can I use?

Guessing I can't use a steel tube in an aluminum tank....not sure what type of plastic will work in gasoline for 20 years or more...any advice appreciated...

Yes , makes sense, I do brush the resin on before the csm, thanks anyways,
The fishing was good, Went with my parents friends who have small kids, they are in 4th and 6th grade, so they are always needing help. Good thing was that they caught alot of trout, So they were happy.

What did they use for a tube originally?
BTW I don't know anything about the sending unit unfortunately but it does kinda resemble a set of old rabbit ears on my dads old tv that he would manipulate ta git a better picture.. :D

Original looks like some plastic type material, 3 pieces fitted together. Those are all different looking types of material also.

Thanks Ben, Auger...2&1 :)

I found a tube at a second marine shop here in town...

Measured...
Marked...
Measured again...
Cut...

Tank originally had a steel reducer...then a brass elbow and brass barb fitting...

This new one is Aluminum...
Will it matter that I have a new brass barb or is this a big no-no?

Anxious to get the tank under deck....
Do I need to paint it? Scrape off the rest of the foam?

Thanks everyone...hope your work week is going well...

IMHO, a light sanding, wash down with TSP, Light coat of Self Etching Primer, and a couple of coats of Rustoleum Paint would give extra insurance against corrosion of the outside of the tank. But then again, I always seem to overkill everything.

Really no need for paint since aluminum is a self protecting metal..... up to you though ;)

Troop not going to use a strainer on the end of that tube? I would at least hit that tank with some primer before putting her to rest under the deck. Glad to see your getting closer!

If we had time...I could tell you a story you would not believe...

Happened when I lived up there in Ohio...
Involved a (coincidently) '78 Dodge truck...Snow Commander...
an Oil pickup tube with no screen...
12 miles or so of walking...
2 blown engines...
and a Stolen trucks license plate I found during one of the walks...

I think you have a good idea there...I have just the thing to use too...
