Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Very good! That's pretty much exactly what I was trying to describe earlier... The only difference is I was going to go ahead and pour the entire area.... Glad to see a preview of this... Looks like it may work nicely.

Thanks Patrick....I want the added stability of the foam connecting the hull with the deck, but also wanted a way for water to make it into the drainage system...this was the best way I could come up with. I will go in later after deck is down and finish the pours. Should help to make things very strong.

If you have a flat board to lay on top, you should be able to do it the way you described. Good luck figuring out the amount of foam needed :)

Has been a straight guessing game for me. I move the foam around sometimes before it sets. It is about the consistency of whipped egg whites....right up until they harden like on a lemon ma-rang pie....ohh that sounds delicious!

You make a good point about the foam "bonding" to the hull and deck... I think you have me persuaded on that point... In addition to being stronger, your way is a little less work... :)

Did you say pie? Ummm...

The only other concern I have is do I need a channel going up in each section to the edge of deck..towards the gunwales?

If you put it in the way you were talking about..there is easy access for water to flow everywhere, eventually to your drainage...I guess it is a little give/take...

Nice work trooper
I am in the same situation as you are, and we all know water will get under the deck, but I have a question that I am trying to figure out too, What if water gets under the deck where the drainage is not, and if the foam is " stuck to the hull" for the expansion if you do it, with when the deck is on. How will it get out, I did a crude pic , any thoughts on it.

Thank you CB.....

I have had the same thoughts. The only thing I can think to do, if I want the foam sticking to the deck and hull is to also make channels running up the gussets to the edge of the deck.

The other alternative to is to not allow the foam to adhere to the hull..a layer of plastic lining the spaces would be enough to let water run under the foam. The foam would still adhere to bottom of the deck and sides of stringers/bulkheads/gussets so it would still have some strengthening capabilities. If going this route would just lay a sheet of plastic against the hull and under the channels I already made....thinking about it that might be the easiest and best way to go.

Thunderstorms today...has stopped raining but still wet out...

Temps have dropped, so I took the opportunity to put a layer of 1708 on the tank compartment.

How many layers of CSM/1708 you think I need in here?

Also cleaned my work area up, no pics...you will have to take my word for it :)

Almost humpday...

Troop maybe lay a layer of foam with channels inbedded up to the deck against the hull and before laying the deck pl it down and lay deck then pour in foam? Similar to what you did with the channels in the vid except a larger sheet to fill the bottom of all voids against the hull like a channeled grid pattern? Just a thought

Also, just a thought... You may want to brace those pre-poured foam pieces before you do your big pour. I've never really worked with pour in foam, but it seems like if it got under those pieces and then expanded it might have enough strength/rise to lift those pieces up??

Not sure if that makes sense... You are doing great...

That is one way I was considering. I doubt I make a decision until I start pouring.

They are fairly tight the way they are, they should be alright.

The tank area.... maybe 1 csm over the 1708 and then another 1708. I would think it would be pretty sturdy. Is the tank sitting flat on it or do you have plastic strips it sits on?

I had talked about the tank lining earlier but had not posted any pics...
Used a vinyl gutter to make these..

Will use this type of Herring bone configuration...

Not sure which side to face up though...

The smooth side to the tank with 5200... use the groves to channel any water out ;) I guess you'll be adding a drain hole from the fuel tank compartment to the bilge....
