Troop, I'd cap the pipe both ends put it in then line the hull with plastic covering the pipe. Calculate the amount of foam needed mix and pour it. When it sets remove the Foam, the pipe will have created an indentation in the bottome to allow water flow. Trim the top of the foam flat. Then you can cover the entire Foam "Mold" with CSM and then place back in the hull. I hope that all makes sense. You'd end up with a block of foam that looks like this basically.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Took my first dip in the 2PF ....

Here is a paint drip cloth under the tank and the plastic sheet I got yesterday...

The idea being that when the foam expands it will go up to a radius, making my glassing easier...

Got the PVC PL'd to the hull..and the ends protected with 5200....
DSC01130.jpg

Here is how I decided how much of Part A and Part B I would need...

roughly 5 gallons of each converts to 40 CU FT...

So kept dividing that down till I got what Should fill the void under the tank..

Measured one side..makes a triangle..5"x12" the other side is same, so this makes a rectangle box 5"x12"x51"
Which is 3060 CU IN...Google calc tells me...
[h=2]3060 (cubic inches) = 1.77083333 cubic feet[/h]
So....doing my division up there tells me I need 391ml of each to get 1 1/4 CU FT...I mixed 500ml to have a little extra..After 5 mins I had this...no where near enough..
DSC01131.jpg

So....Made a new batch a little over 750ml...

Got this....real close...but still some spots I'd like filled in...
DSC01132.jpg

New batch...little over 350ml...
Poured in the right spots gave me this...Looking like i want it for the most part..
DSC01133.jpg

And here it is with the plastic removed...will need just a tad more in the upper corners there...got dark so will finish that tomorrow...
DSC01134.jpg

All in all I think it turned out pretty good for the first time ever pouring foam...

Now just need to get some resin and glass over it...may need to sand it down a little..to get my connectors below deck...

Wood, you must have been typing this as I was making the post with the pics...

I get exactly what you were saying...and had actually considered doing it that way. But as you can see, I went the other route...

No sorry, I reckon exact mix ratios, mixing speed/time, and heat/humidity all affect expansion rate, so your 'guess'-timates were probably as close as you'll get..... None of my projects came w/ foam originally, so anything I do will be an improvement. I suspect it'll be the blue/pink sheets for below decks. And I'll probably secure noodles under the gunwales, which then also conveniently have a hole down the center for use as a wire chase.

Whoever you got the foam from might have some volume estimates, but clearly it's just that, since you started w their figures:facepalm:

Maybe add up what you already used to the volume it made might get you close. By guess and by golly!

Little update...
got the foam ironed out, laid that plastic sheet on top, will glass this CSM as soon as....
DSC01135.jpg

This thing gets cooler..
DSC01136.jpg

Drilled another 1" hole into the bilge...water would get trapped here if I didn't...
DSC01137.jpg

I like the idea of having the foam adhere to the bottom of the deck, the hull and the stringers/gussets..but I still need an easy way to make channels for water to flow...
Think I will do as Wood and others have suggested...lay PVC in the areas I want channels... cover with plastic sheeting...pour enough foam to cover the PVC, let it cure...pull up the sheeting, then secure these molds in place...then when it comes time to foam under the deck, I will not have to worry any...

Sounds like something I can do in the heat..while waiting to see if it will rain...

Definitely getting warmer...still no rain....so guess that is a good thing...

PVC cover in a drop clothe...
foam...
layer of plastic..wish I knew what it was actually...like a shower wall plastic sheet...Don't use it like i did, the foam sticks to it...got it pulled off, barely...
DSC01138.jpg

This is how the foam turned out...I'll do another channel along the gusset...
DSC01139.jpg

Here you can see the channel it made..little twisted from where I pulled that heavy sheeting off of it...it went back in correctly...

Spray the plastic with som PAM cooking oil and the foam won't stick. Won't affect the foam either!

I just started using 2 sheets of the drop cloth, I have plenty...

The admiral might not like taking her nonstick cooking oil...I already have a glass pan used for holding acetone...and several towels...to wipe the sweat out of my eyes..

Got the first layer of glass for the tank area in.

Also got a few more of the channels made...working pretty good.

Troop, you are paving the way for me with the foam. Looks like things are moving along well. Can't wait to get my first order of faim and join in the fun!

Good luck, it isn't an exact science. Helps to have the foam hot, been leaving mine out in the sun. Mix the stufff good too. It will be uniform in color when it is mixed good. I might try to do a video tomorrow to show how little is needed to get the foam needed for the channels I made.

I can't wait either!

Trying not to rush it, because if I do something out of order...I will be stuck...

Finish tank area...cleats in tank area...one side...tank in...other side...then I can start putting the deck down...but I want to wait for my resin so I can get it PB'd down at the same time....then hopefully get a coat of CSM on for starters and keep it protected...then foam, more glass..then gelcoat white...somewhere in all that I need to get the motor mounts in too...see what I mean? afrain I will miss something....

Little video...

Making the channels to allow water through the pour in foam...

I stopped the video at about 2 mins then restarted at 10 minutes.

I used 90ml of part A and 90ml of part B....mixed for about 25 secs.. poured..doesn't look like it will be enough..but it is..area is about 24 inches or so...

Very good! That's pretty much exactly what I was trying to describe earlier... The only difference is I was going to go ahead and pour the entire area.... Glad to see a preview of this... Looks like it may work nicely.
