Dang it, Troop...you seem a bit restless...:eek::D...LOL

You are following the perfect, recommended, unwrittem rules of boat restoration to the letter...

Keep on doing all the little things that need doing while waiting to work on the big things and before you know it...

I was thinking about your upcoming project with having to cut down the stringers and what to use...

I agree with what the guys suggest, PB most if down to hold it steady while cutting...

I think the sawzall, with a medium blade, cut short, [or a short version of one]...would prolly end up giving you the best cut with the most control...

Mark everything to the height you are after and get as close to the line as possible with the sawzall...then get a 24 or 36 grit grinding wheel for the final 1/8-1/4" of material removal...

Lots of sawdust, but will give you the best control to get your finished height...

PS, wear some good gloves, JIC, so's you don't end up like jas...

:)

Thanks cw, I hear ya on the waiting being the hardest part. Hmm reminds me one of Mr. Tom Petty.

I did go out and check on the PL. it seems to be cured, but going to give it another day or two before I start withthe PB and tabbing.

Happy hump day!

Well...I got the motor mounts trimmed down (CSM) and took out any bubbles I could find...there were a few...

Had plenty of daylight so decided to wrap them in a layer of 1708..Got 2 batches of resin ready..500ml

Got things pre-cut and fitting the way I wanted. Ended up tucking a bit of overlap, figured it would be stronger than just cutting it out.

Here is how I cut the wrap..
DSC01027.jpg

Here they are covered...
DSC01028.jpg

Learned a lesson...

Recall I had 2 batches at the ready?

Well I had left over from the first batch...wet the mounts...wet the backside of the 1708 on second mount...Started gelling on me right about then...

Now my second 1708 skin is not completely wet out...resin is gelling so it wont drink it up....

Mix second batch real quick...Geit wet out again, thoroughly then apply it to mount. Start rolling, tucking etc....

For some reason this one is not lining up like it should, pulled it off...put it back on....never really was happy with it...but let it go...

Will see tomorrow if I want to grind it off or let it go..there will be more layers going on...the ones that hold it to the stringer...

Opinions?

Lesson that was learned? If you make two batches for two similar parts...Use one for first part...then if any left over, set it down...start second part with new batch!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

A lot of this happens when we are working in direct sunlight...even if it is overcast...

If you can set yourself up some kind of shade...it usually lets you stretch the timing a bit...

Also, if you have a fan, set it up close to your work station...every little bit helps...

If the second motor mount wet-out good and looks transparent, you should be A-OK

Another thing that is hard to do, but can help, if you have any small stuff that you can use up resin for...even if it is just for a soak...even have a couple of pieces of CSM to throw on it...

Now that you mention it...The first few times I did any glassin I was in the shade, and went alot longer...and it was warmer than today.

I'll keep that in mind next round...

When I do "Small Parts" like that I use "Stick" pins to stretch and hold the glass in place. It works really well for me.

Stick pins ! What a good idea to have some around when corners and things act up and won't lay down. I would have never thought of that..

Hey Trooper,
The motor mounts look really strong. You made some big filletts on them. That alone should hold the corners together. :D
I agree with GT1, If the glass is transparent its good. If its white in color not as good. For motor mounts I would want them
glassed very well.
If you wet out the csm side of the 1708 first and try to pick it up it will stretch. I think YD said you can put some tape on the cloth side before you wet it out and it will help hold it in place. When you put the 1708 in place just peel the tape and keep glassing.
It is not recommended to glass in direct sunlight. It will kick the glass way to fast. I learned this the hard way. And it does it every time.
But sometimes there is no other way. If you do have to glass in the sunlight try and do it in the evening when the sun is low or find some shade.

Keep up the good work. Your doing a great job. Cheers

Thanks Decker, some good advice you have there. Next on my agenda is putting PB on the stringers. The recipe I have been using kicks very slow, so I should have plenty of time to get it right.

carp!! there goes that Woodsy holdin out on us again, lol

Nice job there Troop. I can def see the difference from the first to the second mount. I'd want to feel good about the glass job on my mounts so if there's a doubt, grind it out :)

All in all you're crankin right along. Keep it up1

The table turned out great. Are you going to glass over the wood the give it some extra strength and water protection? :D

I am not going to say that the thought didn't cross my mind :)

Some water seal will be fine if you ask me...
