If you did some in direct sunlight it will kick way faster than in the shade.
Might be the reason.
Still looks great ethier way.
Hope the rain is gone for the rest of the weekend for ya.
Oh yeah Bob Seger. :D

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Can't believe that we went all day and not a drop of rain!

Not sure anyone else noticed, but I forgot to put the limber holes on the bilge stringers. Must have got in a rush? I may come up with something to do there.

Decided to put them in the rest of the stringers while I still had them out. Came up with this little jig to rough the shape. Worked very well. I just sat on it and drilled them out lickity split. Used the air grinder to finish them. Worked great. Took about 20 mins to do all 8 pieces. Nice having the right tools for the job.

Got the PVC cut and smeared 5200 in the cut outs. Letting those cure overnight before grinding them flush.

Those bulkheads look they are getting tired to me....Rain or shine they are getting bedded in PL, along with the stringers tomorrow.

Hope everyone is having much success with their work this weekend.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks SP. i was under the impression that the PL will need to cure for 72hrs, then I will put PB followed with tabbing...CSM and 1708. I left the bottom of the stringers and bulkheads bare so the PL will adhere better. The PL and the PB will also keep them from ever seeing water. Or so I hope. Plan is to get the tabbing done, then cut everything cut to height for the deck. Can't believe I am so close to having a flat surface in the boat again!

Troop Seager man what a classic seen him last year at Quicken loans arena for the first time at his age he played for over 4 hrs me and the admiral were flabbergasted loved every minute of it. Never heard of leaving the mating surface bare but makes perfect sence since it will be encapsulated in PB and tabbed over. Also the limber hole linners are a great idea! Glad to hear the weather holdin out for ya!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

So far tday no rain, just real cloudy. Got the limber hole liners sanded down, the 5200 is still soft. Wish I had a router. Putting radius on the motor mounts would have been so much easier and quicker. Oh well, got them put on with the 4 1/2" grinder and they don't look all that bad. Getting things ready for bedding the fuel tank stringers and have a bit problem. When I originally made them I put a piece of ply under the tank and the strngers sat on the ply. Turns out this left the fittings too high, so I removed it. Problem is that the stringers now ride over top of the strakes for most of their legth. Maybe 6" is on the hull. Should I do some cutting to bring them down closer to the bottom of the strakes or just widen the fuel tank compartment to get them on the normal slope of the hull? I intend to put a couple layers of glass under the tank to make a box. There will be foam under this box, will put a pvc pipe in bottom to allow drainage to the bilge.

Appreciate the help/advice

Not 100% sure I picture what you mean, but I think you should be fine with the bulkheads riding in the strakes...just use the little 1/4" spacers to keep them slightly elevated...

Ya the one is ok. If I move the other I end up with 3" wider than needed on the fuel tank. I am going to remove the first 6" or so so the stringer can lay down in the strake.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Well long day, no rain...lots of progress!

As mentioned earlier today I got the motor mounts rounded off. Ran into a bit of a snafu on the fuel tank stringers. I decided to saw the one down to get it to fit where it needed to be. Was working by myself and was a real pain to line the up. Had the wife help....wasn't that much help...got them close..the grandson came and helped we got them put in..for some reason they are offset a mile..(3") but it will work. Just off center abit.

Also made another cross piece for the bow stringers. These are much longer than original...hope it was ok to go this route. Had the grandson lay the glass for this piece...turned out real good. It looks a little skewed, but that was what it took to get the sides lined up right. The tops of everything are getting cut down this week anyway...if someone can tell me the best way to do it...Guess I should PB them in first though. Use a jigsaw? ugghhh...hope not...

Hope you all had a wonderful productive weekend...

Any one hear if Woody got a splash?

I guess if your cutting them down it won't matter if there off a little. Do the tops of all of them get cut? I would definitely pb them in place so they don't jump around on ya while cutting. Saw Zaw might work . I'm sure someone who has cut some down before will chime in.

Yes every piece is tall. I am thinking jigsaw but maybe circular saw in places. Will also need a small hand saw to get the end/tight spots.

Nice work Trooper.
I think that Friscoboater use a skill saw. I'm not sure but I think it was a Dewalt cordless.
I would try the skill saw for most of it and a sawzalls with a long blade. The long blade should help cut thru the outside corners at one time.

Are you going to put a support under the gas tank or just foam?

I was planning on foam, covered with a layer or two of 1708.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Waiting on PL to cure....

Waiting......

Waiting........................

Can't take it, have to do something.......

So, I cut 28 each 6" strips of CSM for tabbing when the time comes.....

That didn't take long...

See the motor mounts sitting there....

I can make some PB and fillet the inside corners.....

Done!
DSC01023.jpg

That went fast too.....

Decided to put a layer of CSM on the long edges...inside and out...
DSC01024.jpg

Letting that cure....will trim them tomorrow and finish the CSM layer....then...

Maybe some 1708?

Hope everyone has a great, fast week!
