Electric Mixer =

FIRE!

I had prepared two tubs of PB getting ready to work on the stringers. Grandson was using my cordless drill. I decided to use the mixer to mix in the mekp. set my timer....mixed in the mekp. thought...I need to clean this off. Stuck it down in the acetone and turned it on....BIG mistake..I am standing in the back of the boat by the way. Fire ball erupts out of the Acetone. I have to make a split second decision. Try and put it out inside the boat and risk it spreading in the boat. Or do I throw it out, risking injury to myself and saving the boat. I had this towel in the boat. I could cover the tub and smother the flames, but I felt the risk was too great that it would contain the flames. burning liquid fires are tough to control from what I know....which is not that much.

I opted to throw the tub outside the boat and fight the fire out in the open. The towel helped. It was difficult to put out. Luckily no one was near the boat, nor were there any more chemicals close to where I pitched the flaming tub of Acetone. It was not easy to contain, even with the towel. I had a big pitcher of tea that helped douse the flames.

I got lucky, only got a few missing arm hairs...

Took almost 4 minutes to get the fire out. Hopped back in the boat, put the CSM fibers in my batch of PB and still managed to get it put in before it got too sticky.

Just a reminder....these chemicals are dangerous....don't forget it!

Glad you are OK and everything turned out good...

Very good point...we tend to get complacent with our safety and S#!T happens...

Let's all try to remember to always keep our guard up...

Never take safety for granted...

Good comeback on being able to get-r-done after all that, Troop...way to go...;)

This may sound bad but I wish we had a video of your fire marshal bill imitation .LOL ! That was the right call on chucking the pot away from the boat ! BTW you may want to just use the mixer on baking cakes from here on out.. :D

PB pics.....

Got the bilge complete, 75% of the fuel tank locker complete...

I used a wooden spoon. No acetone...worked wonders...grabbed spoons full, smack them into the corners....drug it out with the spoon. Excess was picked up with the yellow plastic bondo tool. Placed this back on the tip of the spoon to hit low spots.

Thanks FF...I have lived my life expecting to learn something new each and every day.

It could have been alot worse for sure. Glad it was just a few hairs and a little grass that got scorched....I was picturing the boat totally engulfed in flames in a matter of seconds....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Wow... Glad you are okay... What a crazy weekend... Wood's boat (and wife) get banged up on splash day; Boatnut's Lonestar got blown off his trailer in a storm and you are starting flash fires with an egg beater of all things...

Yes, acetone is very flammable... I had a shop rag go up flames a few months back when I was torching my bubble roller... It's scary...that stuff is very quick to ignite and very slow to flame out...

Again, glad you are okay.. As an aside, the work is looking good -- you are coming along nicely.

Good to here your just 'light' a few arm hairs!

I don't think the Admiral wants that particular mixer back anywhere near the kitchen.

I guess it was a good weekend to have to work unexpectedly....
