Yeah, this heat is brutal isn't it.... I got out there early, like you, to try to get out ahead of it... By 10:00 a.m., I was on T-shirt No. 3...

I am afraid its going to be a looooong summer here in the deep south...

As usual, the work looks great!

Hey, I know I could read back and find this, so forgive my laziness - what kind of power do you have in this thing (engine and drive)?

Hope it isn't like last year, now that was brutal.

Boat came with a 350 Merc and Alpha out drive. Not sure which model. Think is is a 1 though.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Ashamed to post todays progress.

1. Put the mower back together.
2. Cut some strips from a vinyl gutter to use around the fuel tank
3. Cut PVC pipe into pieces for use in the limber holes of stringers/bulkheads
4. Drilled the hole in the transom for the drain tube.
5. Worked on the stringer/bulkhead placement.
6. Discovered an error in my figures from the otherday, had to recut the bottom of fuel box.

For all the work, I didn't see much progress.

Have a fast work week all.

I know what you mean. Work all day and your body feels like it too.
Stop and take a look at what you did and think Man what did I get done.
Hate the little details that have to be done. They take way to much time.
But I guess we all have to do them.

Your work is looking great. Keep at it.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy*******Rut-Row????????

It's only a feeling, the reality is, stuff gets done...just hard to appreciate, 'cause what seems like so little for so much effort takes so long to do...

Sometimes, doing nothing but thinking seems like like a waste, but not only do you get to recharge the physical battery, you get ideas on how to do things better or faster...

Have a great week, Troop.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks for the words of wisdom....

Another day.....

Was making god progress...and rain drops....mad dash to get things put in shed..never know around here the bottom could fall out of the sky in no time...

I think I spent alot of time yesterday just going over things in my mind. Looking at notes and drawings. Was just not convinced I had the fuel tank where it belongs. The oldest daughters bo' stopped by and suggested that I take the filler hose and see where it lies...Turns out it was right smack where it should be!

Guess I was seeing things different with no motor or mounts in the bilge.

I had the grandson cutting CSM for the stringers and bulkheads, thinking I would be able to lay some out, then the rain...Will try again later I suppose...

It's just amazing how someone can walk up and take one look and come up with such a simple but spot on answer.
My wife does that to me. I'm really grateful for those times.

The motor mounts look strong. They should hold any motor you put in. The stringers and blukheads look great too.
Make sure you support the gas tank up off the hull. Don't want it slaming down on the hull when your cruising across the lake.

Yep, that's how the warden moniker started. She knows all......

Maybe closer to Yoda, 'cause she can definitely detect a disturbance in the force.....

The bulkheads look great, maybe that young man is a keeper. Certainly helped out in a pinch. How are his PB fillet & glassin' skills? Now is the time to test his metal......

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Weather was not looking too bad, so got a little work in tonight....

Redesigned the front portion of stringers. This is just roughed in, but you get the idea. I will probably put a bulkhead in here just for added strength.

Got an assembly line situation setup....
DSC01007.jpg

Glassing the first side...Wet them all out forst, then went back with the CSM while the first coat was still tacky..Man the CSM likes resin!

Was pushing dark....but decided to get the second side done tonight. An attempt to keep the stringers from warping. We'll see how it goes.

The first side was still tacky. I had a fir strip under the stringers that was used to hold them up on the saw horses. I just sprinkled a little powder in a line that matched the strips underneath, then flipped them carefully. Worked real good at keeping them from sticking to the strips. Got the second side done right at dark, now hoping it doesn't rain until after I can move them.

Hope you all are doing well....Hump day tomorrow!

Looking good troop. Now if we could only get a couple more hours of sun everyday, it would sure speed along the boat building process :D

TIP: Get 2 - 8' 1x2's. Drive some 6 penney nails in every foot. Lay them across two four saw horses. You can flip your wet out panels onto the Nail Points immediately with no problems of them sticking. Hope you get what I mean.

I almost did this, with screws...changed my mind at last minute....

Just got back from checking on them, still tacky on top, bottom is dry to touch...but they were sticking to the strips..pulled them up before they got to where I couldn't :)

That is alot of CSM and resin you did today.
Are you putting the resin in the cooler or just keeping it out. Seams like you got the timing down.
Great work.

I have been storing it in a utility closet that I have air-conditioning in. been keeping it at 68F then only bring it out when using it. I had help today from the oldest grandson...that was a big help.I just rolled it on quick as I could. Only had one batch I made 750ml that was gelling pretty fast, I went with 500ml on the rest and went pretty good.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I was worried about it raining on the stringers...I have not done the edges yet.....forgot all about the sheet of plastic I bought last weekend for the template on the transom rework....

Pulled that over the stringers, it can rain and they will stay dry..might actually help with the cure overnight being wrapped up?
