Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thanks JB, sounds like a plan.

I'll be working on it all day tomorrow, taking a personal day. I want to have the PL set tomorrow so I can start glassing come Saturday.

I think I may need to get the Transom finished tomorrow first. 1 or 2 layers of CSM/1708? I intend to put some blanks in where screw holes are to keep water out too.

Per WOG's layup schedule: CSM, 1708, CSM, 1708 after a tabbing layer of each...Or at least as I understand this pix:

I don't think this follows the Iboats politically correct terminology clause... I suspect you are talking about backing plates made from 3/4" plywood.... Else, I have no idea what it might have been.....

CSM & resin wrap the backers too, PL (SLOW, maybe too slow to hang from a vertical or inverted without the bolt/screw installed) or PB the backer into place if they are for screws or thru bolts that need holding power but metal plates & the filled oversized hole would better on higher torque load fasteners that are thru bolted (ski loops or stern eyes for tubing/towing others & etc).

The rain from the mid west or Florida is officially upon us...... man it's just dumping buckets of rain & had a fantastic light show last night....

That rain isn't from Florida, JB. Drier than a popcorn fart here, brush fires everywhere.

Good luck this weekend Trooper. Can't wait for the pictures. Excellent work so far, bet it will end up GREAT!

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

I made some PB for the backing plates. Just covering the speedo pickup holes.

Trying to get the skin on the transom. Hot down here and making it tough. Only mixing 300ml at a time and mixing @ 1% on the cat. Stuff is kicking fast. May knock the ratio back a little. That shouldn't hurt anything will it?

Thanks forwell wishes and kind words RFN.

Would not advise going below 1% on your MEKP
Put the resin in the Frig for 30 minutes and then mix the MEKP before you go outside. And no I'm not crazy, this "Fools" the mix and makes it thinks the temps are lower outside. Not sure if the Wife will go for this but... it does work. You could also use an Ice Chest with ice to keep it cool in the "Tent" she might like that idea better.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

The standard ratio for polyester resin is 1 oz. of MEKP to 1 gallon of polyester resin.
For smaller quantities, please refer to the ratios below.
1 oz resin: 20 drops MEKP
16 oz resin: 1/8 oz MEKP
32 oz resin: 1/4 oz MEKP
64 oz resin: 1/2 oz MEKP

Put it on ICE in an ice chest. You'll Fool it!!!

Funny you should mention that. I have a little utility closet under the carport. I have an airconditioner in there.

The resin I had at the ready, put in there, turned the thermostat down and chilled it. Got the 1708 on real easy.

Chalk that up as another lesson learned.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Had a productive day, still didn't get all I wanted to accomplish, but good day non the less.

Made some backing blocks so no through holes for speedo pickup...etc...
DSC00987.jpg

Drilled some holes for getting PB into them to hold them tight.

Blocks PB'd Layer of CSM on, getting ready for the 1708. I gave it a dry fit and worked in as tight as I could. Was laying real nice, no wrinkles...
DSC00990.jpg

Got the 1708 wet. Some bubbles.... mostly anywhere I had some high spots from the CSM. Should have sanded them down I suppose...Well I ain't running a million dollar racing boat, so it should be fine.Got the keyhole roughed in. Didn't have the right tools to finish it will do that later.

Hopefully tomorrow I can get the rest of the wood for stringers/bulkheads completed. then get them coated in resin/CSM in anticpation of putting them on the PL...Maybe Sunday, but thinking it will be next week before I get that far...we'll see.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Thank you all. I'm trying my best to make this not only look good, but be right to boot.

When the temps are high 80's and up, I think the chillling is the only way to go. I started out this morning with pouring several tubs of resin, so they would be ready when I needed them. In this heat that just doesnt work.

I just may try to put them in ice water next time :).

So....Saw this today...

I was thinking I can sand/grind these out, fill with CSM then put my final layers of CSM/1708 down.

I had not cut the hole out in the mat when I applied the first layers. Should I have done that to allow the mat to move if needed?

TIA....
