Snow wasn't too bad here...got between 6" and 8" I'd say...

Taxmas time came last week...so bought me a few supplies...enough drywall to cover the walls and ceilings..assorted sizes of wood to frame it up...fiberglass bats to put on the walls.

Started out Friday with clearing the work areas up...you'd think I have plenty of room..not...

Well got some room made..then pulled down the 1" styrofoam that was the ceiling...stacked them for later use...

made a couple of T's to hold the drywall to the ceiling...they were too tall and made things difficult..but got the first piece up with some assistance from the Admiral...cut out the styrofoam to fit on toip of the drywall as I went...got 3 sheets hung with the wifes help...did one by myself...I have to hand it to the folks that do this for a living...they sure make it look easy...

Three sheets up...

and the foam from above...

Thinking I will put some fiberglass down in this area....then lay some ply down for storage...

Maybe I'll get this all done soon and can concentrate on boat work...

I also got to speak with SP today!...nice talking Sam...thanks for the tips...

Troop good to see our making out well with the work station. It'll be nice to have it done the way you like with a little time and effort.

Nice work @the D/W!

It'll make a huge difference to get more R-value insulation in the ceiling...

Don't over do it storing stuff on the 2X4 truss cords..

Garage envy continues :)

Hey Troop it was great talking with you today ! I needed a break from grinding on the trailer anyway . Ok here is another tip for ya . It looks like your trusses are about 4 ft apart and you added 2x4 's to help support the drywall . Its hard to tell from the pics but you should put those on at least 2 ft centers with 1/2 " drywall . Over time the unsupported area's will begin to sag especially if you add extra weight of more insulation . And always run the drywall on the ceilings perpendicular to your framing . Other than that theirs nuthin to it but to do it ..:)

nice progress on the man cave! I have to second what SP said, make sure you put your support braces no more than every 2 feet on center. Or it will sag with time just from it's own weight and start popping screws.

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Well...darn it....was thinking I should bead some PL on it, maybe that would help? Otherwise I got alot of sawing and screwing to do....got 6 sheets up so far, guess I better fix those too before I get too far along?

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

If it were me, I would Troop. The last thing you want is to have a mess of insulation (especially blown in) droppin down on ya one dreary, humid fall afternoon whilst your polishin up the Ebko and dreamin of calm seas and fair winds....

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

Hey Troop,
SP is right on the money, hit the nail on the head, spot on about the sagging.. The 2 car garage at my house has no insulation and the joist or 24" centers and you can see every joist in the ceiling.. The sheetrock is sagging about 1/4 to 1/2" between the joist.. Just the weight caused this..
Have a good week..

Re: '78 Ebko Lebaron - Therapy

another alternative would be to nail 1x2's across the joists on the "Outside". Kinda give it a Beam Look. Just a thought. The best way is as others have suggested.
