The stripper might get some of that goop to peel off like fruit rollup.

A N.B You may want to rent a hot water 3500 or 4500 psi preasure washer and just go at it for 30 to 50 min. You will save yourself all that back work and sand paper! It may strip the paint right off of the boat to a brillant shine. The you can just gloove it the whole thing and call it a black lab! LOL! Kidding....;) She looks great N.B Coming along nice and quick.

I wish I had your business hours! I have no time for my projects:(. Plus the weather has been great... Been fishing as soon as a get free time, Been working alot!

N.B Please after you rebuild her. Put a zink on her attatched right to the hull bellow the water line. I know you are not going to be leaving her in the water, but just do it for precaution. My brother has had some serious issue with his 18 cc starcraft and it really upset me to see it looking the way it did. So just for precation its a good idea..

And for all you other tinny owners you should all do the same! Alum is very funny.

But she looks great N.B and im glad you when at the hull like a mad man with the gluvit. Thats what i like to see... Looking good

The zinc anode on my TABS is an original Yamaha anode which is attached to the lower part of the engine bracket which in turn is through bolted onto the transom. There's no need to attach another anode directly to the hull providing the engine bracket has an anode and is attached in this way - saves extra holes in the transom. If you like I can take pics... let me know.

Re: 75 Starcraft Islander 22 I/O to CC Conversion

If there is no anode on the hull and just the trim motor bracket etc there is a larger possabilty to get electrolosis.

Sorry mate but that statement's total BS. This anode is on the motor bracket and acts in exactly the same way as a hull anode as it's galvanically attached to the hull and the motor bracket and the tilt/trim via the stainless wire. As long as there's an anode of sufficient size and it's in the water (like the one in the pic which has done over three months in saltwater in the last two years) it'll do the job... it simply doesn't matter if it's not mechanically connected to the hull. Physics 101. Sorry to hi-jack your thread NB but there's a lot of misinformation around in regards to tinnies and anodes.

Hey, we're all here to share info and also learn a little along the way. I'm cool!

And btw, that brushed on stuff on the bottom of this boat is hard as a rock!

Do you have a heavy duty power washer?

SNS, I've put a post on the thread mentioned above. If you wish to have a discussion on iboats about galvanic action, electrolysis and marine electrics then let's start a thread away from this thread - we're just having a p!ssing competition at NB's expense.

Cheers,

TII.

OK first off no need to go deleting stuff. just leave it there and continue the conversation on the other thread. I'll be there checking it out also.

I've already attempted to powerwash the hull with not much in the way of results. The brushed on stuff is extremely hard and eating the heck out of some 100 grit disks. But that's OK, I will win this battle!!!

Here's a shot of the deteriorated black goop on the chines. It's all gone now via the razor knife and scraper.

Islander61.jpg

here's an overview of the brushed on stuff. It is very thick and has a yellowish tint and actually acts like maybe an epoxy. There's also a ton of junk in it ike it was done outside without any protection from dirt and stuff getting into it. there's also a ton of marine tex around the main keel. It's all gone via the screwdriver and hammer method:D

Islander60.jpg

Here's a shot of half of the bottom sanded off. Very slow going and a ton of yellow dust but we're getting there. The sides are all stock paint so I'll just rough it up a little.

I'll be back on it tomorrow evening and should at least finish off the bottom.

Looks great.... Well listen they sell a attatchment for powerwashers that you can hook up a sand or baking soda bucket to etc... If you get one N.B you can use a fine medium sand mixed with the preasure to blast all that paint of quicly without all this hard work... Or soda blast it with your presure washer... Just an idea..... My friend has a 4500 psi hot water presure washer I wanna try.. But if it dosent take the paint off i will be most likly trying the soda for the first time and if that dosent do the trick then sand.....! But looking good... I just hate seeing you bust your but on the clean up! Now busting your but on the rebuild well thats worth working hard! :D

Re: 75 Starcraft Islander 22 I/O to CC Conversion

Hey NB that's coming along nicely!

I made a set of rod holders something like that in my boat, but with a twist. I have 3 racks on the port side and the rods kind of "interlock" in the center rack. Something like this:

............................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX..........................
...........................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...........................
...........................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...........................
...........................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX...........................
............................XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

Wellll, something like that

On the starboard side I just have a single rack that holds a couple rods, stern light, gaff.

Yeah that's the plan Dan. Six holes in the center holder and three on the two end holders.

SNS, I've got a good size power washer and also a blaster that I'll use on all the rivets, but honestly, the orbital sander is faster.
