Thanks for all the compliments I just hope the paint will last a season or 2. I did manage to get the second outdrive mounted with no issues. I found that if I used the alignment tool right before I put on the drive it slipped right in. I lowered the front of the trailer enough to give me height enough to use the floor jack under the keel of the outdrive and adjust the height so it went straight in. Pics later. Got both lubed up and props attached using plenty of grease and some anti seize gunk I have. Now on to something else I just don't know what yet.

1. Tackle the hydraulic issues

2. Sand down the cap and keep prepping it for primer

3.Work on drilling holes in the console to mount all the gauges and switches

4. Take the dogs out to the beach at the next county over that lets you take dogs on the beach.

Here's both stern drives back on.

The trim tab anode is to big on the starboard engine so I ordered a new one. The stickers on the port side are gone so I ordered another set of those also. I decided to mess with the trim cylinders and that lasted about an hour before I got frustrated and decided to find where the tire on my just bought for towing the boat 2005 GMC Yukon XL 4WD. Enough tow capacity to pull the boat, carry 7 people and plenty of gear. Found and repaired the leak in the tire so I feel like I did something now back to the boat.

Are you using the original trim pumps or is one of them the newer oildyne ?

The old Prestolite pumps were high pressure low volume and new Oildyne pumps are low pressure high volume. Both put out high pressure (2200-2600 psi up and 400 to 600 psi down). The difference is the cylinders can not hold up to the high volume of the new pumps, you need to have the lower volume ones with your cylinders

How can I tell old from new. I will take some pics and do some research. In the mean time I had to crank one up and smell some fumes. Impeller is working. Shifts forward neutral reverse neutral smoothly. Unjoints don't make excessive or weird noises when I move the leg left and right and up and down by hand.

Now Oildyne does make a replacement pump which resembles the new pump but pumps differently

Looks like are pics crossed, you have Prestolite so they are the correct ones for your trim system. Now to just try to figure out why your blowing cylinders, my first thought is the relief valve in the pump is stuck closed

Mine are prestolites but what do you think about the 2 solenoids set up. My old ones only had 1 solenoid but the ones I got from the donor engine and donor boat had 2 so I left it that way. What about the oil I am using what viscosity and type should it be?

Switched out trim motors. The spare works but still having the same issues as the other motor. Both cylinders go all the way out/up painfully slow at times. They go in/down slow and than about third of the way down they just stop going down. Motor still running but no movement. I disconnected the cylinders from the leg and same thing. Right moves out/up first followed by the left. Ran them up and down 20 times no change. Checked fluid level and it's good. I am stumped. Taking other parts off real quick just to take them apart and make sure springs and check balls aren't gunked up.

Look close at pages 3 and 7 on the link posted. Look at the lock valve check valves

Yeah I have taken that apart twice checking springs and balls. It's all there in the order it should be and its clean. Still no change as a matter of fact the trim cylinders basically hardly even move now and this is the starboard side which is the side that was working half way and hasn't blown up any cylinders except now the right cylinder is leaking at the base where the tube threads onto the base which is what happened on the port side right before it blew up. Oh the joy.

Have you checked to see if the cylinders are binding, by disconnecting them and move them in and out by hand?

The 2 cylinders on this engine I bought on evilbay and they looked clean supposedly fresh water used and both were very smooth and easy to pull out and pushin. I might pull them off and see if they still are. I think for now I am done again messing with these things. I may just have to save up some boat money and trailer this thing to a pro to get both working. I am just afraid of a $1000 quote
