Feel for tacky. If tacky then you can remove, if wet then wait till tomorrow. If mix was good and temps etc. should be able to remove now. It shows you did it @ 8 am. so I'm going on that time..

Thanks. Got the clamps off and the transom peanut buttered. Used a 2” piece of PVC pipe to make the fillets. Worked amazingly. Sand and tab tomorrow.

Seen the transom tabbed and skinned multiple ways through various threads. Should I:
1. Tab a strip of CSM followed by two strips of 1708 then skin it with two layers of overlapping 1708?
2. Tab with two layers of 1708 and then skin with two overlapping layers of 1708?
3. Tab with a layer of CSM and then skin with two overlapping layers of 1708?
4. Simply skin and tab with two overlapping layers of 1708?

Does the same go for the stringers?

Thanks for all the help. Kids are going to church camp this week and I am off. Looking at multiple 12 hour days dedicated to the boat. May be calling on you often.

Any advice on getting the 1708 to take the resin? Slow going.

My new favorite method is to set the backside of the cloth with resin first, that way it starts dissolving the styrene binder right away. Plus it helps it stick in place. Only downside is it can be difficult to handle large pieces.

can see what I did here.. starting at 13:05.

jacked it up... Transom is over 8 feet long. Tried to do it all at once. By the time time i got to the sides, the resin had kicked and lamination wouldn’t set. Basically a gigantic airbubble. Spent the last 2.5 Hours grinding off what i had wrongly done. Nothing like wasting time and money. Neither of which i have extra of. Time to study, eat and sleep and start again in the morning. In the mean time, thanks for all your help and if you will pray for the family of Brandon Jones. He’s my RB and his 4 year old sister passed yesterday due to a brain tumor. Makes screwing up 1708 not such a big deal. Also makes me hug my own 4 year old and 11 and 14 year old a little tighter. I Pray your family is well also.

You're on a learning curve for cure time work and the RUSH you get trying to work it.
So make your batch and wet out the /wood at top. It will poop at the bottom, so you're going to always have something to put your roller into to work the lower half. Statrt from the top always and go down, do sections and get a feel for how the resin soaks up.
Keep your measuring cups and such readily available so if you get caught you can whoop up a batch and keep going. Feather out theglass as you get to the end of it so the new ties in wet.
And work the pool off the bottom of the hull back into the fiberglass. You don't want pools on the bottom, They have no strength value.
It's just a learning curve and costs will certainly make sure your keeping inline!;)

Note; If the top of the stringer or transom keeps falling off you need to wet it more. Always the top!! Some guys use little clamps to hold in place then remove after/during wet out.I've done the wet out of glass prior and don't like it. Just me.

Should I run my bulkheads all the way to the hull wall or two the lip on the edge?

Not sure what you mean by "lip on the edge" other than maybe where your old floor was???

I would use the rule of thumb, when in doubt put it back the way it was... Adding extra material is always okay, but unless your going to re-engineer and calculate all the stresses, strains, twists, flex, loading, etc of your hull, use the same floor structure that the factory used as a minimum.

My plan for installing the stringers and bulk heads is to:
1. Soak the wood in resin.
2. Cap the edges with CSM out of the boat.
3. Set the stringers with Peanut butter and create my fillets.
4. Attach with one layer of CSM and two layers of 1708, full encapsulating the stringers and bulkheads.

Is this ok?
Is it overkill to cap the hull edge with CSM before setting with peanut butter?
If I cap the top / deck side with CSM do I need to cap with 1708 as well?

Run bulkheads full width.
Try the capping on the top of the or some stringers to see how it works out for you. Rest is SOP. :joyous:

Got to patch a few spots on the transom, but i thought it set pretty good. I pieced it so in some areas there are three over laps of 1708. Some of the spots in the pic is just glare too. I'll get all this tomorrow. Today i got the center and rear bulkheads and stringers cut! Ran them like they were. Did the bulk heads first and stabilized them. Then measured the stringers by running a level across them and drop measured.

ya wanna hear about overkill....I glassed most my stringers and bulheads on the flat/worktable. Was so easy. Then only had to tab them in after setting them in pb. But of course I ran all the glass completely over the hulls to the adjacent stringers or bulkheads.
Lookin good there FB.

Thanks much. I was reading your forum on the 222 redo today. Had the same screw or glue the deck question myself.

All stringers and bulkheads cut and coated with resin. I'll clean the hull real good tomorrow and start setting them. Kind of excited. Way ready to be DONE!

Sorry to put you asleep. Sometime I'll clean up and reload the pics that PB sucked out.
