I was planning on adding a layer of pearl onto it, but after the spraying fiasco I'm a little fearful of trying clearcoat on it.

lowkee
Just blasted thru the whole thread and suscribed to it...15,000 looks NICE (took quite a while!) and watched a few vids. Nice Job! looking good! I feel your pain! we have a project going too, similar amount of work and same troubles (better hull than yours though), not as hacked up...jeez bunch of fools owned your boat previously .....really took care of her LOL.
Super sleek hull design, very sweeeeeet!:D

You went nuts with the flooring, should be bullet proof... bet those ply panels were heavy when you were done!

What a pain yanking the top half and such, are you able to re-use the rub rail aluminum and rubber? that stuff is PRICEY!
--------------------------------------------------------------

I havent had much work for around 5 months, so I decided to "flip" boats HA HA HA dummy me! picked a full on resto for first job. Shoulda got a bettter boat for a few more bux! we are 2 weeks (actual work days) and are almost ready to install decking, we kinda FAST TRACKED... didnt cut too many corners...doing a good job etc.Did the stringers and such....It's LOTS of work Im finding. Looks easy in pics lol

Sorry you had such a bad time with the HF spray gun, I had the $10 version (not the hvlp) the normal sprayer type. It worked excellent. Then bought a $350 HVLP gun, it used less paint and adjusts ALOT so can airbrush or slop on paint.
I'm going to attempt GEL COATING with it using a big tip for the gun.2.2mm I Hope it works out! $47 per gallon --- worst case we'll roll it on and wet sand / polish it out. Ill let you know if it works out either way for your future projects...we will be using House of Kolors automotive sunrise orange pearl on top half with clear coat, gel coat on bottom half. looking fwd to seeing your pearl job.

Too bad summer is about over, maybye she will be done for some fall fishing? Keep up the great work!!!!!!!!!! We will be watching.....muu haaaaaaa haaaaa haaa!

Looks really nice. I'll be getting to that sooner than later, but the bottom of my hull is going to be a real chore to finish tipping it to the side like that, though it seems as though it will be the only real good way to do it for me unless I can figure out a good way and place to flip my hull.

As the saying goes.."looks great from my house!" ;):D

Hey Lowkee, just wanted to say that I'm glad I came upon your thread, just inherited a 92 Bayliner and this is my first boat and the entire deck, seating areas, just about everything is rot.
I have been reading numerous threads trying to get a good idea of what I'm getting into.
I've already started tearing out the interior and deck, it is definately a job.
hat's off to you, excellent tutorial, excellent work and definately appreciate the time spent putting all that info. into one place so us novice boat restoration enthusiats can spend more time working on the boat than searching the internet.
Can hardly wait to see yours finished, Quality job my friend

GOOD GOD, MAN! YOU'RE OUT OF CONTROL!!

But it sure looks damn good! :D

I know how much effort finish work is. And that is one heck of a lot of finish work. Outstanding.

"There seem to be plenty of voyeurs in this thread, but few posts. By all means, if you are interested or learning from this, let me know. I could use the encouragement about now".

You are doing a great job. I am just looking for what I could be in for. I'm not real happy about this. I bought an '87 Bayliner w/125HP Force. Runs good but rooster tails. From searching the links here I found out why - rotten floors and water soaked foam. Sure enough, I pulled up the rug under a soft spot near the stern and behold - rotten plywood. Pulled up a test section and found wet foam. Looks like the boat was either backed into or hit in the rear as I have hairline cracks on either side of the transom about 6-8 inches on either side of the motor, so Im sure there's structural damage. The 'glass is cracked on the interior side of the transom so I know water got through. Not sure if I want to go through with this or not. They don't have launch docks in my part of NJ except for private clubs so an open-bow boat would be a better choice. I might just part it out. Too bad because I already started recovering the seats. Mine were as bad as yours. Boat neglect is a terible thing...

JHS - part it out and buy another one. Only do what Lowkee is doing if you LOVE the boat. It's the only thing that will get you through it.

Lowkee, MAN it looks great. We did the exact same thing and did not thin our first coat. We are also one day 3 of sanding. We had to take the day off cuz neither of us can feel our arms. Hopefully ours will turn out looking good,

Hew Lowkee,

Your wife would hate it, but a set of P-40 shark's teeth would look mean on that hull.

I agree:D

Lowkee how's the Bayliner looking these days? We need some more of those videos to remind us that our restorations haven't been anywhere near as much hard work as your rebuild:D Great job so far, looking forward to seeing the interior and the "planing out at WOT video" :)

Wow, thats all there is to say.

Ive got a 1990 Bayliner Capri 1800 with the same color scheme, and the hull has knicks, dings, scratches, and areas where the clearcoat has been poorly fixed, lots of problems. This thread is fantastic, because some of those shots look exactly like what it would be like to do my boat. Seeing so many pictures and detailed how-to, tips, etc is really great, it makes me think that someday I might put myself through the punishment of doing this myself. I LOVE the look of the paint so far, definitely keep the pictures coming!!

WOW! I have a 1990 Bayliner Capri 1800 as well. I am awe struck by what you have done to your boat. Mine is in bad shape, and has no motor right now, your thread has shown me exactly how to restore it back to new. Your efforts are Herculean, as was your task. Kudos to you, sir. :)
