Great thread! Just read the entire thing. I like your creative and innovative thinking. This has helped me out alot, thank you for the details and photos. You'll be on the water in no time!:D

Quick question, how did you treat the seams in your deck boards? Did you just glass over them as if it was one unit, or did you use PL to smooth the seam out if needed?

Hey guys,

Yeah, I'd like to be back on it as well. Life gets in the way more often than not. I never did heat my garage, but I did fill it with woodworking stuff. I've been tinkering with that until I get the boat relocated to the LBL area. It seems someone forgot to tell the people selling their houses the housing bubble burst. Seems denial isn't reserved for just boat owners. Hopefully it won't be long, but it won't be soon, either. Maybe March at this rate.

I must admit, it has been nice to not sand, poly or grind in a while. Woodworking may be unforgiving in its own ways, but it sure is relaxing.

Hey Lowkee,
It's good to see your name on here again.
I understand life getting in the way all too well. Settling for woodworking isn't a bad trade off.
Take care
Bob

Hey Lowkee,
I just found your thread today, and wow!!! I also have a 1990 Capri 2050 BR that I purchased last march, and after a years use, a soft spot popped up between rear seat and drivers seat mount. just wondering how hard it would be to remove seat mounts and just replace the deck between engine compartment and ski locker, and still be able to reuse the old seat mounts. thanks and keep up the good work:D

If (see 10 steps of restoration denial) that soft spot is isolated, you can use a flush cut saw or similar to remove the seat bases and replace the deck from there, then just put the seat bases back in place and glass them back down. The trouble lies in getting the deck replaced without tearing the boat to shreds, as nothing is modular about these boats. You pull on one thing, three other parts lift up.

Start a thread, post some pics, and we'll help you as much as we can. These boats are just too pretty to give up on. I'm hooked!

The keel is so worn you can see light through it! Another rub or two and this would have been underwater

i've got the same problem with a 19' center console Sea Lark i'm rebuilding.
its my first rebuild, what would i do to fix this? i was thinking some 24 oz. rovin from inside the boat. what do you think?

Well, the weather is warm again and I'm healing up okay from a recent broken collar bone, so it's time to start giving this thread (and my boat) some love again.

In preparation of a 600 mile trailer haul I bought 3 new trailer wheels (rims and tires) yesterday. I got them from Northern Tool for $99/ea. They are Load Star K550 14" tires and should be a nice improvement over the auto radials currently on the trailer. I'll be getting started on repacking the bearings this afternoon, which should be interesting as I've never done bearings before. Doing all of this with only one good arm will likely make this an interesting process.

As always, pics to follow!

Lowkee, glad to see your thread back on top on the resto section where it belongs:)

Good luck with the move, hope you found a place close to a big lake.

Let that thing heal up and take her easy for a bit, can't wait to see your boat all done...I'm sure part II will be even better than the first installment.:D

Just found your thread and my wife wants to know what I've been doing for the past 2 hours while I've been reading... you have done a super job of taking pics and explaining as you go, and the product information is really great!!

I have a 1988 Imperial VC230 CC with a few small soft spots near the stern, but over the weekend I noticed my starboard motor mount bolts are both stripped. So I'm hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst, and we'll do exploratory drilling in a day or two.

Oh, if your NC garage wasn't heated, moving to LBL was the WRONG direction!! *L*

Heal up well, and keep us posted. Thanks again for all the great pictures and explanations... it must feel like an additional project just to keep up with it all.

I can't wait to see the final outcome!!
