Don S left us with this list.
Engine Won't Reach Operating RPM. Check

1. Fuel condition. Type and Octane possibly old fuel
2. Propeller pitch or diameter, damaged blades
3. Restricted fuel pickup tube or anti siphon valve Fuel System Test
4. Crankcase oil volume, high oil level can cause aerated oil and lifter collapse
5. Marine growth on hull and outdrive
6. Wrong gear ratio in outdrive
7. Restricted carburetor air intake (clogged flame arrestor)
8. Restricted exhaust system (broken exhaust shutters/flappers) in engine transom shield or drive
9. Poor cylinder compression Compression Test
10. Carburetor defective, or wrong type.
11. Fuel pump pressure and vacuum
12. Boat overloaded, improperly loaded, or improperly trimmed.
13. Engine Overheating
14. Engine timing and ignition system operation
15. Remote control cables and linkage for proper travel to open throttle plates fully.

I immediately went to the fuel pump too. It should at least be winding up trying to plow the sled through the water shouldn't it? I think my brother had a problem with a pump and it presented the same problems.

I rebuilt a row boat last spring, switched jobs in the summer, did some van camping in the fall then finished adding some comforts to it this winter before starting tax season... all on top of honey doos. Now there's a little lull to catch up with my people before my first little one arrives in July. On that note.... I believe I saw that a late congratulations grandpa are in order!!! :thumb::thumb:

.... if that is the direction....give me a call.....I will help you build it.

Appreciate it but honestly i think the biggest i could go was a small block, and even then i would probably hate it because the engine bay looks over cramped with a Small block. never understood why someone didn't invent better exaust manifolds that weren't so bulky .

I'm figerring you have the motor apart and testing every component already. You'll have it resolved before the weeks out!
You can take that to the bank!:mad-new:

so :) i did a fuel flow measurement and my fuel pump as installed to carb is flowing 30 gph more then enough and the air cleaner whilst slightly dirty was easily seen through so i think we down to prop sizing.... form what i have gathered a 14x13 pitch will get me where i need to be maybe if rpm are at 2700 and im looking for 4400 rpm id say that should work .
still need to read plugs and see how they been burning but i suspect they will be whistle clean with slight carbon because boat seems to run well except past 2700 rpm lol
