Hey gang, stopping by again to let you know where im at...I miss working on the boat, and goofing off on here, but that still has to wait. The old gal is sitting covered up and patiently waiting some attention. Ive been spending more and more time down the shore working, than up here, but I cant complain, the bikini action is improving with the weather, and in a few weeks, it will be like spring break :D

I spend most of my internet time hunting down elusive simpson strong tie brackets that the architect specked out, I swear I put more meatal on this wood house, than the last rusty car I restored lol, anyway, heres a few non boat updates.

I got the house mostly wrapped with the 1st layer of barrier, and built the basic porch structure and temp stairs (inspectors don't use ladders), the lower balcony supports, and a lot of hurricane strapping, still have a ton of strapping left to maintain the 120 wind load.

just underneath I had to add about 100 h6z's and 1600 hand driven nails...that broke the straw so I caved and bought a strapshot gun, wonder how I ever survived without one.

It made putting some upper straps at 20' high somewhat bearable..

Is it me, or does the site not give the popup anymore for new PM's? when you log on....I see I got a few, sorry guys, missed them.

I also see posting progress is still gonna be sketchy with this new forum..bleh!

Nope, its the site...I am having a heck of a time with the message system, almost have it figured out, again...that is until they change it...
BTW, the beach house is looking fantastic...I definitely expect to see some superfluous bikini shots when the time arrives...;)

I think the site is something of a work in progress......hope they sort it out soon. Nice progress, what is a strap shot gun by the way? I used a palm nailer to put in all 36 16 penny nails on my beam hanger brackets....otherwise I would still be nailing! I built mine to our 90mph wind speed and then some. I figure if the barn is gone its because of another EF5....and really anything other that cast in place concrete is gone at that point. Hope you get back to the boat soon, I'm trying to do the same!

Her Arch, thanks, I see youre making some good non boat headway too ;)...nice work! I found the palm nailer too cumbersome way up on the ladder, and its almost always windy..I hate it up there, and need one hand on the ladder lol....this solved that. Plus, I make my helper go up mostly lol :D

Hmm, I notice my thread shrank...missing a few pages....o well, guess they were sacrificed to the forum update gods....whatever, time to give the old gal some more love...

Put in an order for some much needed resin and cloth from USC...should be here within a week.

I was poking around in the boat today, assessing where I left off, turns out, im pretty close to getting the decks back in, the engine hatch area gives plenty of room to finish the glass work in the engine bay. I was planning on moving the water cpvc pipes and pump forward of the engine room firewall, but now ive decided against that. Might not be a good idea to locate electrical items that close to the fuel feeds, prolly best where they were, on the engine side of the firewall. That will also get the deck back in faster, and save me from reinventing the wheel too much ;) Im gonna try to give a good push on the glass work, so I wont need the bubble til way later in the fall.

I feel ive been bitten by the boat bug again, which is a good thing..ill see you guys soon with some pics when I make some progress.

I guess our age is showing lol

long time no see Arch and BD.....the admiral had me on double secret probation: no side projects for till the house is back together, but like everything else, I let it settle for a bit, then just do what I want :D

Lol! I hear you on house projects, about done with phase one here.....which is all the tornado stuff, this winter is phase two, living room, dinning room and kitchen....should go pretty quick, just retexture, paint, carpet in the living room and cork in the kitchen....then no house remodeling projects for a few years, lol! How is the beach house?

speaking of age, I pointed out a guy in a picture today, and told one of my interns,"he looks like Sam Kinson". She asked me, "who is that?

Sam was a big loss, as was Chris Farley! "I live in a van, down by the river!" lol

I hear ya, storm remediation is a long process, I made good progress at the shore, but the Mechanical subs (HVAC, plumber and elec.) showed up like a convoy of jackboot swat teams, so im laying low for a bit., so a good time to squeeze in some boat work. When its done, ill try to post a slide show of pics, and maybe including some of the smurf that cruises by lol.

One thing I notice, that after a 1 year push I made, the waters got kinda muddied,..ended up jumping to tasks way ahead in the project. I know from experience its best to just prep whats needed next, to keep the train rolling, no matter how bored you get. I also now notice 'im down to one chip brush, and just the measuring cup I scoop cabosil with, I really ran myself to the edge lol. I don't know, 'im rambling, but i'm just gonna set the guage cluster, swim platform, ect aside and get the below deck glassing done.
