Dang Zool ! Are you going to rebuild ? Stuff like that just hits ya in the gut to think about ..

Yea Sam, when they 1st let us back on the Island and saw it, the Admiral cried...I kinda just smirked, knowing the flood insurance is paid in the mortgage ;) Its a summer rental property and gets run down...getting harder and harder to put lipstick on it every year.

If the weather holds, we should break ground Friday or Monday...no piles are allowed to be driven on weekends...we just have to run a test bore to see how far into the sand we need to go, to hit hard ground...my guess is 20', based on the adjacent property that was just redone. That one was salvageable, so they lifted it up, dragged it into the street, and up the block a bit...then brought it back and lifted it back on the new pilings. Fun stuff lol.

Thanks Gus...I welcome the challenge..as long as its warm :)

On another note, im down to my last 1/2 gallon of epoxy, so im ordering a new batch, along with more cloth and supplies.
I have a few more lams in the fuel tank area, then I move to the engine bay, where I still need a bunch of PB...Im wondering if it may be better to use the thick epoxy, to make it easier to thicken to PB?...the thin 635 is a pain to get thick enough...

Anyone use the thick resin from USC?

Zool, just got caught up on your thread. Man, when it rains, it pours!

Glad to hear your keeping your head held high. I have been kicked several times to in life, but been able to beat it back. As I'm in my declining years, it's sometime harder to fight back.

Hang in there Bud! I'm rooting for you! Also glad to hear there was some progress on the boat too.

Hey gang, havnt been posting much lately, but try to read the board when I can, to keep up to date with everyones projects. Looks like the weather is turning a corner now, 60's past few days. Havnt been able to get in any boat work, but the hull is starting to stay relatively warm, so I can resume glassing when I get a break in the other action. Made some progress on the paint booth doors, but miscalculated the wood purchase, so have to get back to HD to finish the other...mostly just poking around when I get a free hour or two.

Got the pilings and bands in at the shore just the other day...still have to remove the batter boards, and clean up the site..just waiting on the elevation cert, then the inspection...time is tight so I hope I pass..heres a few pics of where im at.

Ended up going in 20' like I thought, and upgraded to 3/4 bolts from 5/8

And went with lam beams instead of dimensional wolmanized...

Just some construction porn for the geeks like me ;)

Very nice shots of the pale sky and cold surf. So which way is it to the surf from your bungalow? Hope it's not behind that hulking 3 story.

I don't use the thick epoxy :D but I do like watching you guys do your thing with the stuff.

I think theres a glasser in your future WM, you just may not know it yet ..its the force that's bringing you to us.....and its pointless to resist the sticky, itchy mess :D.

That big gray monolith went up a few years back, replacing a little bungalow like mine....its direct oceanfront....way out of my budget but nice none the less...it does keep me from being sandbasted tho :)

Zool, The 'vette in first picture..... Is that the Zool-mobile? That is another project you just might not have time for, especially if something goes wrong with it. So, to help you, I can take it off your hands, at least until you get caught up on your other projects, and I won't even charge you! :chuncky:

Looks like the new place is being built good and stout ! What are the smaller pilings down low ? Part of the old structure ?
I thought about building my house up on stilts but then started thinking of all the stair climbing over the years . I went with ICF foam blocks with the 4" poured cells instead .
The last pictures are making me jones for some surf now ! Would be nice to be able to walk out the front door and paddle out ! Nice little clean break ya got there ! Might have to come visit ... :watermelon:

Looks like you have been busy there! Nice looking area, I'm starting to wind things up here....looking forward to relaxing at the lake this summer instead of driving nails and cutting up trees! Looks like you have a way to go, but you seem to keep things at a manageable place.....keep on trucking, lol!

Yea Okie, I like glass cars as much as glass boats :)...its a 98 C5....its got relatively low miles because it spends summers in storage because the ac has a leak so I only use it in spring and fall....the dash needs to come out to fix the leak, and theres a hum in the fuel pump that's annoying, which involves dropping the tank to fix....its a back, back burner project for now...

They make me make it good and stout, has to handle 120mph wind load...I think you guys in Fl have similar requirements. The low piles will be final cut to grade level, then a monolithic grade beam and slab will be poured around the poles, with j bolts for the lower framing. Some are for deck post footings, a few are in areas with tight tolerances, so from the ground up I need to use a few 5 1/4 square parallam posts instead of poles, the 4 in the middle support the elevator pit slab...I think my Architect gets a kick out of doing this stuff to me lol.

Since the storm, the surf break has improved greatly, nice even sets of 3 now, so if you come up, bring your board, ill supply the beer and nail gun :D

So today, I stole some time to get some glass work done....

shes all bare naked and bubbleless for the summer.

Im about to go back out and sand down the areas, and give them a good wiping with some solvent.

I cut and did a test fit of the final lams for this stringer area.

I plan to cap it with the eglass

Well that went pretty quick, forgot how much easier it was to laminate when the weather is right...gonna let it tack up a bit, and see if I can get a few caps on the stringer.
