Re: 1987 Sea Sprite 225 SSB transom re build.

Question about my motor mounts. Before I pulled them out I measured the length, width, and height. I measured the for height by running a straight edge across the top of the boat at the front of the mount and then at the back of the mount. At the front port side mount I got 45" and at the rear I got 45 1/2" on the starboard mount front I got 44 3/4" and the rear I got 45 1/2". so can I assume that as long as my new height is somewhere in the 45-45 1/2" range as close to symmetrical as possible Ill be ok? I'm thinking this is why they put adjustable motor mounts on these engines? In the pic marked with BLUE and I think I figured out what the piece marked in RED is for? even though it wasn't fiber glassed completely to the hull there was a small space underneath to allow water flow, anyways I think this piece tied the 2 mounts together to firm them up to avoid torque on either mount maybe? What say you gentlemen?

OK! got the transom laid out, cut and glued, I used PL, I know some guys don't like it but I have lots of time to let it cure. I do have a cpl o questions about the key hole and the gabbard drain hole. Should I cut my key hole before installing the transom or wait till its installed? and should I cut around the gabbard drain hole or just cut it big enough so the drain slips through? I know some guys like the idea of setting it in PB so there's no exposed wood around the hole. Covered in PL with a 3/16" notched trowel. , Cut glued and screwed,

Ok! 1 more test fit after the key hole was cut and the edges beveled. got good lamination with the PL glue. Used my belt sander to bevel the edges all around and on both sides. . Now Im just waiting for my 1.5oz CSM and my 1708 Biax to arrive, then Ill lay up a layer of CSM on each side and then glue it in with Poly resin PB.

OK! getting ready to lay out and cut stringers, once I get them cut should I coat them in resin and let them dry before installing them or just leave em bare wood and coat and layup glass after they're in?

Is 1/8" milled fibers just as good 1/4" chopped fibers? for mixing in your PB?

I would not use the 1/8" milled fibers for fillets and or adhering the transom to the boat. You need the fibers to give structural integrity to the mix along with the cabosil.

Very nice work. Looks like you've progressed rather quickly on it. I'd like to see more pics of the boat and cabin, just because I like looking at pics of the larger boats wishing I could afford one LOL.

Can anyone tell me if I can bed my motor mounts directly to the hull or do I still need that 1/8"- 1/4" gap underneith for padding? Not sure yet if Im using PB or PL.
