Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help
Had some nice weather this weekend for a change and I took advantage of it.
Took the 2x2 cedar rails I made for the port and starboard sides and wrapped all four sides with 1.5 csm. This took alittle time but worked out good. I used some string lines from the bow to the transom to have a guide to set the rails with. After alittle ruff and scuff
on the rails and the sides of the boat I mixed up about a pint of PB and started to set the rails. I used the brass screws I removed from the old rails.
I then took the cross rails ( for lack of better name) and put one in the bow and one in the stearn. I marked the center line on the top of each. I found the center line of the transom and the bow and ran a string line from each center mark. I also used this line to make sure I was at the correct height for the deck.
I cut out the first bulk head that goes at the end of the storage box's. I didn't make a pattern, I just took measurements and cut and fit.
I used 2 peices of the plywood and spliced them in. After this I put in the frame I made for the storage box's and the splashwell.
I fit it all in place did some ruff and scuff and started putting in the PB. I used a trick for the PB, I took a large zip lock bag and filled it with my PB. After a few twist I had what looked like a cake decorating bag. I just sniped off just a very small point of the bag and started squirting the PB. I made about a pint for this. It went under the small space I allowed for the bulk head and I was able to do both sides at the same time.
Let me tell you it was 10 times easier and faster than the good ole PL.
Here is one side of the bulk head glassed with the 1.5 and tabbed with 1708.
Hope some the good weather made it your way this weekend.
More to come.
