Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help

Thanks for re-posting the pics...the colors do look lighter...

The new pics are still darker than the real macoy..

That is some nice lookin stuff. I'd reckon you'd want to wait and install it on a real warm day. I'm kinda partial to the Granite!

If I use this, I will use the Granite..

Here's a pic of how I want my motor to run on the Decker..

Just a fleeing moment..:D

Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help

It has been awhile.. I've been doing little things here and there on the boat.. The last month it's been trying to rain or has rained me out.

I did need the time to do a lot of thinking about how and what I want to do next.. So many different ways to go and So much money that I need to spend to get there..

One of the things I didn't like was the center console. It was entirely to small.. So I decided to cut it in half and make it wider..
Only have one half put back together.. The other half that faces the bow, I want to add a seat in front and a access door.. Under the seat I will put the 2 trolling motor batteries there..

Here's a couple of pics..
Before I cut it..

And some after I put it back together..

Still need to do some more work and fairing, then a good gel coat..

Have a great week I-boat friends..

Re: 1983 Deck Boat Transom/deck/stringer replacement Help

It has been raining here over the last week.. Not much work done last weekend.. Did get a chance here an there to work some..

Didn't take a pic of the front side of the CC before I cut it, but here is 1 after.

Did some measuring and screwing and put the 2 pieces down on my work table.. Put wax paper under the CC to keep
the glass from sticking to the Masonite table..

I want to put a access door in the front of the CC.. I put some 3/4x3/4 rails wrapped in wax paper down on the table
so I can glass a recessed channel for the door..

Hope this will work.. Will test my glassing skills..

Looks great, I like the recessed lip for the door idea & how you've got it laid out/protected w/ wax paper to keep from gluing the CC onto the worktable.....

Did some glassing yesterday afternoon and some today..
This is the first layer of 1.5 csm as I just started to wet it out..
You can see the resin has not yet thoroughly wet out the csm..

This pic shows the same layer after a few minutes and rolling it out with my 1/2" bubble buster..
You can see how it is almost clear and shows the dark spots on the Masonite under the wax paper..

The next pic shows a total of 4 layers of 1.5 csm laid up at one time wet on wet..

The last pic is the top of the CC with 4 layers of csm..

Next will be trying to do the channels for the access door..

Hope everyone has a great, fast and pay check Friday.

Great stuff as usual ! Ok now for maybe a dumb question ..
Is the hatch already cut out around the outside of the plywood recess ? So once the glass has cured the framework will pop out from the outside ? The cut looks so tight it's hard to tell ..

Some more pics after the glassing..

Hope this helps to answer your ? SP..

I put 2 layers of csm and then 2 more layer of 1708. Will need to do some touch up work on the radius corners, but I think it turned out ok..
When I do this again I will make the channels a little wider and maybe deeper..

Have a great hump day all you great I-boaters..
