OK, so after hours of futile sanding on the one side...I started the other side, and learned something, the area I am having so much trouble with is the very first section i filled, it is still a little tacky, yet the rest of the boat sanded down great. I believe I did not mix in enough hardener with my first batch and it still has not fully cured. I still have that area to do , so not sure if I am going let it sit a while to cure or just use a lot of sandpaper! anyhow, here are some update pics. all the scratches you see are really filled, and smooth so when i prime it should look smooth!

also got the holes filled on back, need to do one more layer to finish filling it all, then ill fiberglass the inside for strength.

I can't tell ya how jealous I am Judge! You're moving right on along with your boat and mine just sits dormant in the garage. I can't seem to buy enough time to really get busy. Granted, for me it doesn't really matter because Texas is pretty much out of water so having a functioning boat doesn't mean squat right now! I live exactly 1 mile from the marina and you can't even launch a jon boat due to the lack of water. There isn't a single ramp open nor is there a single boathouse still touching water. But I digress... keep up the good work!

I have a lot of time, and a lot of water! lol the little community I live in has 7 private lakes within 10 miles of my house, 3 of them are within 2 miles and have a nice river too. But things will slow down when it comes time to rebuild I am sure because I am honestly scared to death of doing the glass work lol. and I have a friend who knows what hes doing but if he isn't able to get hands on with me, I am worried I wont do a sufficient job...we shall see! today is the 28th...so i have been working on it 1 month so far!

ohh yeah I decided on the name ..yes i know most bass boats dont have one, but I want one anyways. Its gonna be "New Addiction" because I have quit smoking during this project and its helped me keep my hands busy!

ok so before priming i wanted to see how my basic paint scheme looked so threw some tape on there and get a more 3 dimensional perspective. So Id really like some opinions...tacky? looks good etc? let me know what ya think. Color scheme is green stripe with tan body, I sprayed some green and tan with computer paint on 2 of the pics so you can see which color goes where

are those stripes going to be painted red? or are they masking out an area for other colors and thicker stuff?

the red is the tape...the colors i sprayed with computer (BADLY at that are the colors that go on each side of the tape

Leave the bottom one color IMO ..

thanks again for input, i was just worried it might look a little too over the top since i wasnt going to go with straight lines. wanted to try and give this little boat a little more "pop" lol. I will be priming tomorrow and saturday and hoping to have the 2 coats of tan done by tuesday then mask off and do 2 coats of green on wednsday , let it all sit to 72 hours then flip and put it in the cradle for rebuild...yay time to move forward lol.

Moving forward is a great feeling.

I want to do some original painting too.. maybe like a lightning stripe or something when I get to that step in my resto...

I was planning to paint bottom only to tie in the fore and aft paint, since it will be trailered in my driveway most of the time, i just wanted it to look good lol, sad I know....but now ya got me thinking so i may have to change it somewhat, might just come to a sharp point with green at the end of keel. thanks for your response YD

Looked around some and cant find a specific answer to my current question. What primer should i use for rustoleum paint, and also which hardener should i add to my paint mix? thanks in advance for answers

I'd use their Clean Metal Primer and the Valspar hardener.

thanks ezmobee, that was what i wanted exactly, i was looking and didn't see any primer that said fiberglass only metal so became unsure, and did not want to purchase until i had confirmation! once again appreciated, can move onward and upward now!

The clean metal primer specifically lists "previously painted surfaces" as one of the things it happily goes over and to me your gelcoated boat = previously painted surface

took YD's advice and making bottom one color, so heres my newer idea, green and tan are still my 2 main colors, tan will be on the bottom, green on the other side of tape. Opinions welcome, Id rather have opinions now that after I painted! Mind you this tape is far from perfectly placed, after i prime i will use good tape and mask it to perfection! this is just to give myself, and you a visual aid to picture what i have in mind!

got my first coat of primer on, i think it looks pretty good....I have never rolled something with so many curves before...definitely a new experience. Anyhow will sand and do second coat tomorrow. For now here are some pictures!

very pleased with the keel lines...not bad for a newb to body work!

pretty pleased with my hole filling job too
