The plan of attack worked! I am happy with this one...still wish I had a better machine but I think I am getting it figured out

So i made the tan side, then made the green side and then joined them together....great idea except I put it together backwards

IMG_3927.jpg

OK do over! mind you that it is still loose on there, I have nothing to pull it tight to right now

JD,
Been catching up a little on your thread. I will just use a quote from Edison when trying to make a light bulb. Someone said he failed 2000 times and he replied that he did not fail, he found 2000 ways not to make a light bulb, he only needed to find one to make it work. LOL :D
Keep up the great work.

JD,

Let me throw some KUDOS your way, bro...

I don't know squat when it comes to anything remotely related to upholstery, but I gotta say...

You are knocking this project outta the park!

I look at some of the offerings in the marketplace and even uber-expensive seats DO NOT have piping! That, my friend, is usually reserved for Hi-faluttin, super pricey upholstery...

So, the fact that, you are even contemplating doing this high quality, highly complex, high end detail in your upholstery, just goes to show what superior craftsmanship is all about.

Remember, just a short while ago, you had NEVER done this before...

Thanks to Wood, your perserverance, and practice...you are kickin this upholstery thing...

Great Job!!!

Yup, just as I thought... Your talent and perserverance paid off. It won't be to much longer and you'll have it figurer out totally and you'll look back on this and wonder why it took you so long to get it figured out. VERY NICE LOOKING piece of work. If you don't have one of these GET ONE!!!! It's a seam ripper and it works great for those tear outs and redo's

Judge, One thing I found is if the covers are a little to small you can stretch and pull it to fit. But if they're to big... Not so easy to make em look right. Not sure if it's the pics or what but they look like they might be a bit big. I know you said that you were going to put batting over the foam too so... it may be all good in the end. Just wanted to let you know what I learned from my experience.

Re: 1982 Skeeter SS-1 Sport Fisherman Restoration...In Progress

its just the pic, I added about 5 staples (since I need to remove them) to tighten it up just a little...will be alot better when i put a few more, since it only has the 3 sides, and top is 75% open for the lid, it laid pretty loosely, with a couple staples it looks better. Thanks for looking out, and is sound advice for anyone who is considering taking on this mess like we have lol

Thanks wood, I may jump the gun on pictures sometimes, but like to show the progress as I go, nothing worse than a finished product and people saying "but how did he do it?" when I cut my blanks I lay the item and trace it out, then cut 1/4" bigger, I seam 1/2" so that makes it 1/2" smaller than what i traced, and with the foam it should shrink that much...or that's the theory anyways lol

Hey JDA
I?ve been gone for a few days (school) and wow, look what you did. Your sewing looks great to me:D don?t be such a perfectionist.;) I could not do what you did. And come out anywhere near as cool.
Dave:D
I am starting to draw designs for my bench. Thanks again for the info about the vent for the fuel tank. I don?t understand the blower term you wrote. If I put the tank under a bench do I need a vent hole with a fan?
I was planning to just do a nicely stained and finished wooden bench but looking at how awesome yours is coming I am really thinking of doing it your way. I love the two tone stuff you are doing and I think it would look great on my old tub as well. They did a lot of that two tone stuff in the 50?s.

Just an aside thought. Before you sew, staple, glue, the backrest portions maybe take them to an embroidery shop and have the them stitch the skeeter emblem (or the JDA Boatworks for that matter) on it while it is a nice flat sheet.

These threads are what make it possible, the great community here at Iboats is amazing and can empower anyone to do this, I am glad my thread could contribute and repay the community for the help they have given me, without them, none of this would be possible!

If I can do it, anyone can...I have never done this, and am using a less than par machine for the task....I watched a lot of youtube videos and read the threads here, like Woods seat build. It is a frustrating task to learn but once you get the hang of it, it becomes surprisingly easy.

bear in mind that it is all still loose fitted, needs to be tightened still. Now comes the fun part, the 1 piece cushion that spans all 3 sections lol

Great looking seats, be on the lookout for a brown delivery truck....Those would be my seats (after I build 'em) headed your way....... Red & White please.....

Good looking layout, design, fab & sewing.... Well done, we knew yous could do it, yous just got-sta be persistant.......

Thanks! I won't even mind if mine are a 'pack' project, as long as you'll sign off on their work:). Don't want any visits from the man about child labor laws...................

I guess we need to get ya a "JDA Upholstery Shop" sign for out front, Boatworks can be around back:D.... Poly fumes & all, don't want that out near the road & the neighbors...

Looking forward to seeing 'em finished & ready for installation!
