Re: 1981 Bayliner Victoria 2750 - Restore or Bust

gwpjr had one of those 12x20 pop-up garages over his Starcraft. Well, until a 60 MPH gust of wind that is ...

So, after taking what was left of it apart, taping up a tear, welding some broken pieces back together, and salvaging what I could, I ended up being able to assemble the entire roof frame.

Got 6 pieces of 1 1/2" PVC pipe, 6 old driveway sealer buckets with 2" holes cut in lids, 30 gallons of rocks and rubble, and assembled a summer shelter for the big Bayliner.

Now we don't have to work under the winter tarp and crawl in and out through the bow hatch. I was getting pretty good at it though :)

It's tied with ratchet straps to the trailer and boat cleats, making it seemingly rock solid. When gwpjr was using it, it was guyed to the (wet) ground with the short little "stakes" that come with it. PS: They don't hold.

The plus side is, he got a new, trailerable cover for his boat, and I was able to salvage a cover we can use while we work on it this Spring and Summer.

To quote the nice lady next door: "My, I do have entertaining neighbors!" We definitely are the only ones on the street with a yacht and a circus tent in the driveway.

Yeah! The other yacht guy wishes he had a circus tent!

So any new pictures of your project GWPSR so that I can fantasize about my boat while I wait

I am getting antsy already since mine is 200 mile away

LOL. Nothing major since the last update, however gwpjr spent a little time Saturday morning with a disk sander, removing headliner adhesive. The bad news is, he noticed a small darkish spot in the ceiling between the forward hatch/skylight and the rail. Yup -- more rot. I haven't seen it personally yet, but he tells me it's not large.

I also lowered the fuel tank back onto the hull again, and fitted it with a few pieces of tubing, one with a Schrader valve, so I can air-up the tank and check for pinholes and leaks. I want to do that before I invest a whole lot of time in cleaning it and coating it with something.

Sunday featured flipping gwpjr's 14' Arkansas Traveler so he could fill beach and trailer rash (not a lot) and block sand the hull. It's looking much better already.

I think I have the same fuel tank in my boat it has the same shape what was it 125 gal in your boat, oh boy yeah the last time my boat was registered was 2007 so what ever is in my tank now is varnish. Also in my engine department on the port side did your boat have a tank of some sort like a water tank? do you know what is for? maybe is has something to do with the closed cooling system

See it there right side of the picture you can see it is about half full

Yeah, 125 gallons -- 4'x8'x5". Monster tank.

No, I don't have that small tank. My potable water tank was in the bow under the v-berth. If you don't have one there, it might be in the engine bay. Doesn't look big enough to be 20 gallons though.

Re: 1981 Bayliner Victoria 2750 - Restore or Bust

That tank looks like it was put there by the PO to catch rain water cause it has a hose hooked up to it from a hole topside

I have a hatch on the starboard side only accessible from the top of the boat I think that is where the potable water is
SSPX0182.jpg
I guess you cant see the hatch but it is to the right of the front open hatch in the picture it is a triangled shape hatch but i did not open it

Also my bow hook is really loose that the winch hooks to I don't know how to access it to tighten it up. When i removed the cushions there is no access do you have any Idea ho to get to it

What are you planning to do with the overhead once the headliner adhesive is removed? Another headliner? Paint?-Tom.

Haven't settled on new headliner (or walls for that matter), but have given some thought to Nautalex or similar. I liked the feel of the monkeyfur that was there, but it stains easily and retains moisture.

There is close to zero chance that the walls will be covered in brown and gold shag carpeting this time around though :) Holy Bell-bottoms Batman!

If you have a potable water tank in the front, there will be a fairly stout hose that runs up the starboard corner of the bow cabin, and a chrome filler port on the starboard side of the boat, above the rub-rail with a screw-on cover similar to the fuel filler but a little smaller. The hose that runs through the cabin is usually covered in white vinyl and secured with snaps. If that "hole topside" is chrome and has threads inside, it may be the potable water tank.

I have a hatch on the starboard side only accessible from the top of the boat I think that is where the potable water is

That is your anchor rope locker. The anchor itself lashes to the pulpit, and the rope coils in the locker.

If you peel the carpet/headliner upward from the wood of the v-berth, the ends of the U-bolt and nuts should be visible a few inches up from the bottom.

Yea, the monkeyfur is soft and molds nice to my contoured cabin top, and the 2 inch padding helps head bump in rough seas, but I have one dark stain where the hatch needs to be rebeded, and it doesnt clean easily at all....I may have to change it all due to one 3" black stain....gonna give oxyclean a try ist.

Go to 'Settings --> Edit Signature' (http://forums.iboats.com/profile.php?do=editsignature)

The signature can contain BBCode, like links, images, colors, bold, etc. Mine says:

Code:
Restoration in progress: [ URL="http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=570740" ]1981 Bayliner Victoria 2750[ /URL ]
Tow vehicle: 2004 Ford F150 4X4

without the extra spaces around the '[' and ']' of course.

Today I spent a little while adding more temporary bunks under the boat between the strakes.

Tomorrow I'll have gwpjr walk around inside while I watch the bottom of the hull for movement. Most of it ought to be right solid.
