Re: 1981 Bayliner Victoria 2781 - Restore or Bust
There was a 'shelf' on either side of the engine bay that was about 6" above the hull at the thickest edge, and 1 1/2" at the chine. Yeah, I'll be putting something similar back in to carry batteries on the starboard side, and potable water tank on the port side. I think I'd like to make them a bit taller than stock so I can get an extra couple of cu. ft. of foam in there maybe.
I'll be using epoxy throughout. The added cost is offset by the superior strength, non-permiability and the avoidance of toxic fumes. (And no haz-mat fees for shipping) I can't uncap this beast, so it's a pretty enclosed space. I'm familiar with epoxy too. Haven't settled on what kind of cloth for the lams on stringers or for tabbing yet. Probably 17ox biax.
I picked up an inexpensive whizzer from Harbor Freight this weekend. Now that I have it, I can see that would sure have come in handy earlier in this project. Much lighter and smaller than my angle grinder. Sidewalk sales and coupon fliers from HF are dangerous around me.
The blue flame welders hood is on my list for next time.
Thanks for following along. I hope to have more boat porn to post here when the weather breaks.
