Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

It may be a 1' - 1.5' too long. Ugh.

Better too long than too short. My cable is a foot or so too long and I have no problems whatsoever. My cable is undulated a tad under the gunwales to take up the extra length.

As long as you don't have any sharp bends in the cable, you should be fine.

Bad news. Bad stuff just happened.

I'm in trouble. It's 6:30 pm on the night before we leave.

While installing my helm console I cracked it enough to make it well varnished fire wood.

I think I can change directions but I might simply be out of time here.

No way to cob it up...to make it functional?

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

Not safely. Since that dash holds my steering in place:eek:

My buddy Kevin has worked a bunch with that fir in the shop at school. He told me a while ago that it has a tendency to split. I didn't remember he told me that till I herd the crack:facepalm:

I'm thinking I may swap over to that alum like I used on the Jet Star project. I really don't think I have the time to do that plus all the other stuff though.

Damn...

Any aluminum you could use in place until you get back?

Your magical elixir, 5200, won't work in a pinch? Uncoated ply?

K sarah K sarah or there abouts... Last minute substitution to a kicker & tiller?

I got the last hole functional with a strainer thru hull that will supply the baitwell...

Here's the pump on the other side of that...

(you can see my paint work in the bilge during the middle of the night, sheesh)

I don't like how that's just out in mid air. I can see something getting thrown on that and end up breaking it right off. I'll need to put a bracket on that or something.

Added new eye bolts and tie downs, you can see the new LED lights there too...

Re: 1980 Sea Nymph SS 165 Rebuild

So then I went after the engine, hoisted it up off the stand and lots of cleaning...

I unbolted this, I think it's used for additional kicker steering...

And after a while all painted up...

Someday I'll have a stainless prop on this engine. In the meantime it just got repainted black. Prolly should have painted it white instead...
P1080928.jpg

The transom cap was all bent and way nasty so I hit it with some degreaser...
P1080929.jpg

I decided to let that soak and went to check the helm dash. It was just barely dry enough to handle so I went to install it to the console and...

Just noticed the cracked dash...would pre-drilling prevent that from happening, or maybe just drilling for a nut and bolt arrangement...???

Pre drill, maybe. I remember my buddy Kev said that stuff just cracks sometimes. Bolts would have prolly worked.

OK, that's it. Stick a fork in me, I'm done. I still have a bunch of packing to do, kid gear, yada yada. Sea Nymph stays home. Shhhhhhoooooooooooottttttt!

Some friends of ours are bring up their boat so that's cool.

I think I'll throw in that Evinrude kicker just in case I see a row boat cheap somewhere along the road.

Very sorry guys, I just couldn't pull it off. Thanks for bumping me along though, very much appreciated:)

Oh ya, in between all that I ran to the local marine dealer to grab some vent and supply line. At nearly 4 bux a foot it was painful! So, I hammered the STP and felt a little better.

So when you gonna be on American Idol?
Bummer about not taking the SN, you did give it a good shot and did amazing work at lightning speed.
For the dash, can you edge glue it back together and reinforce it on the back with a hunk of 1/4" ply laminated to it?
You could rout out the backside to make the ply flush with the surface of the fir. It may be easier to start with a fresh piece though. just some thoughts.
Hope you have a great time on your vacation and get all rested up to continue on with the SN when you get back.
