Watermann, I am just knocked out by your restoration. It's better than new! You are truly an inspiration. Thanks for sharing your journey with us.

I really appreciate the supportive comments from you fellow iboaters. I've been giving some "field boats" in my area the hairy eyeball. So I may be able to talk the admiral into another project boat. This time maybe a glass runabout.

I also squeezed in some time for the stripped LU drain plug tutorial. Take a look, I hope it helps someone out in the future who find themselves in the same trouble.

Watermann, just went through all 7 pages....and all I can say is wow, I hope mine turns out this good. But it will not be done this quick. I just picked up a SN SS160, gutted with a mind to restore it. I will start a thread here, and hopefully get some good help like you did!

Question:

On the hull crack in the front (mine has the same crack) did you weld at all? Or just use the 5200/gluvit and what not...Mine is in definite need of welding as the crack is a little wider, but do not want to melt out the rubber seal.

And, the inside of your hull looks like brand new spotless aluminum..is that from the JJV's ? or aircraft stripper?

Welcome aboard jvanhees and it's always good to meet another fellow SN'r! To answer the cracked keel. I used marine tex to repair it, no welding. I used the marine tex to fill in on the inside and then to rebuild the outside where the damage actually came from beaching I would imagine. Once cured I think the marine tex is as strong or stronger than aluminum. I then coated the inside of the keel and rivets with gluvit to seal the deal. The inside of the boat was pressure washed and then I applied the JJV's best and used a scrub pad to work it in and not let the stuff streak up.

I look forward to seeing pics of your SN and restoration thread. Check out the official SN thread where you can post up some pics of your SS160. http://forums.iboats.com/sea-nymph-boats/official-sea-nymph-forum-seanymph-boat-owners-437708.html

That's not a moon! Reverse course, get us out of here... too late...

Got my eye on this 1974 Glaspar with a V4 rude on it. It's hidden out in a field behind a shed uncovered rotting for at least 3 years now. Everyone around here thinks that their junk is gold plated so we'll see... and then there's the admiral who isn't convinced yet.

Sunny side up... All the decking, hatches and seats are in, Minn Kota bolted down. I pulled her out to sun bathe for the afternoon. My truck then promptly died and wouldn't start back up... I ran the Johnson some, used Seafoam to decarb and then put in some new marine copper L77JC4 plugs.

I also ran the livewell pump and leak checked the plumbing.

The boat looks great, and the decking really turned out nice! I would be happy if my boat looks like this boat when I am finally finished. Honestly.

Re: 1978 Sea Nymph SS160 resto

Thanks guys, yeah I have a few things to make right, the front live well has sprung a leak in a welded seam, the back well feed hose clamp dripped. The air box gasket didn't seal and leaked premix all over my nice painted motor. I got the boat back inside the garage and that seamfoam wasn't done working on the carbon, a nasty puddle of black goo dripped out of the exhaust onto the floor.

Admiral has more decals to put on for the reg numbers, re-pop capacity plate and SN with logo I designed. The SN should be about ready to get some river water after that.

Re: 1978 Sea Nymph SS160 resto

Got all the repairs done before next weekends fitness trial on the river. Got the parts to fix my old truck too.

One of the things I am proud of is the under deck marine cooler. Already did a fit test for Becks Sapphire... LOL

H2O

I fell out of loop about halfway through your five day blitz but am catching up on your wonderful work.

This has been real enjoyment following your progress, ideas, craftsmanship and getting to this point.

I cant believe how well the picture turned out of the 55 cover let alone how nice the paint and decals look. Congrats to the Admiral and you both.

I didnt realize the Mightly Columbia held such a variety of species. With that early experience and getting to this point of the resto it's got to be a good feeling to put it all together. Sure enjoyed the pics with the mountains in background. Beauty !

You have every right to be proud of the cooler set up. Sure is curious how it just fits a fine Becks though.....

I mentioned earlier wanted to invest in your soon to be resto company but glass ? Think I'll just hang loose for time being and watch this play out. You have been known to not only think outside of the box but sometimes stir up the pot a bit so standing by.

Hopefully you'll have some time to post a few pics of your adventures.

Top notch work.

I like that cooler setup too, and found the cooler. Should fit perfectly!

Wal Mart had the Igloo marine coolers online, I ordered it by the dimensions. I had to use 3/8" ply on top with a 1/16" sheet of aluminum I cut out of the bulkhead I had removed. I then sandwiched it between the cooler lid and ply to add some rigidity. It was a bear to get right (open and closing) but it came out great. Used a couple stainless machine screws with washer and nylocs to put the squeeze on the sandwich. Oh I also ran the wood screws in the recessed pull into the aluminum and cooler lid and some 5200 to seal the whole deal.

There is no drain in these type coolers, I use the larger plastic sealed blue ice packs rather than ice bags anyway so about all I get is some sweating that dries up quick or you can use a towel. I thought about doing an oversize lid to where you can remove the cooler to clean but opted to size it down and bolt the cooler to the bottom deck. Just have to use some type of cleaner every now and then to keep the stink away.
