They are tougher than you think at that age. You'll see that he'll breeze through it and move on with no hiccups.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

you must be a complete wreck.

You have it PR. Hardly anything gets me down buddy but this here is completely tearing me up.

Like I said before, if this Islander never even sees water she has served her purpose in helping me work through this.

I probably won't talk about it anymore because I hate this thing so much, just hate it.

I will post up how things go Tuesday.

Thanks a bunch guys, appreciate your support and encouragement.

I just want him to be ok.

God he is cute as a button. Have to get that ride going so he can tube and ski behind it. Prayers are with you. Remember when you were young that you could wreck a motorcycle for a mile and get right up and kick the sucker to life and ride the rest of the day? Young people are tuff, a lot stronger than we give them credit for.

I know how you feel. NOTHING gets you down like when you're kids, or wife are hurting.

Zachary and I got down on our knees and said a prayer for you all in the name of Jesus. Asked for a full healing.

My achilles heel is my son, so I can totally relate to how you feel. If there is anything I can do just ask.

God bless you guys.

Hey Jason,

Best wishes to cool-dude Ethan from the team downunder - Jas, try and get some rest if you can and I know you'll stay positive - your fantastic attitude and unconditional love will reflect on Ethan and that will help him to be just fine.

The boat is great for taking your mind off of things. Most of us are only dealing with work issues, etc though so it's not the same.

Hopefully everything went as expected.

You have it PR. Hardly anything gets me down buddy but this here is completely tearing me up.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks guys, appreciate ya!

Ethan is just awesome!!!

Yesterday, during 8 hours of surgery the docs were able to completely remove the mass! Gosh, the docs and staff here at U of M are just amazing.

Man, he was in rough shape to start be he has since been sleeping/resting, taking in lots of fluids and started eating too! Just in the last few hours he has made marked improvements! He had tubes/hoses/wires coming from everywhere and now he is down to just one IV drip. I suspect he'll really improve from here on and we'll be walking out of this hospital very soon.

Yesterday was the longest day of my entire life. I'll never forget the fear and helplessness that I felt as I turned and walked out of the operating room after holding my son down for the anesthesia, very literally, placing his life in their hands. I can not even describe it with words.

Hardly a thing gets to me or gets me down, this thing here rocked me. Big time. I hope that I never have to go through anything like that again.

Ever.

Anyway, my entire family is so thankful for the prayers, support, encouragement!

You guys are awesome!:D

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Jason,
I haven't been very active here for the past couple of weeks and just stumbled upon whats been going on with your family. I've had a few things going on in my personal/professional life lately and reading the posts associated with Ethan's battle have brought me to the conclusion that I should quit feeling sorry for myself over the superficial stuff and be thankful for the good health of my children.

I'm glad things are working out for the little guy and I'm sure both you and your wife are breathing a HUGE sigh of releif at this point.

Now get that boat done and take that little man fishin!!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome man. Give him some time to rest up and he'll be fishing in no time.

The same operation on one of us would have laid us out for a month :)

Fantastic news Jason. Big ops on littlies are scary so I know you must be feeling absolute elation. Moreover, the profound sense of relief in your post made all us iboaters very happy. Best wishes to Ethan for a full recovery, he'll be captaining the Islander before you know it! :)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

(I just posted this over on the Starcraft forum - thought I'd shoot it up here too)

We are home!

Got home yesterday afternoon!

I could not be a happier man guys! E is doing super awesome! He's not 100%, more like 98%. I can't believe it, my whole family is totally floored. The whole extended family welcomed us home yesterday and was looking at him in total shock and disbelief!

He was running around and playing and eating just about like he normally would. At one point I said...

"Hey, slow down buddy, you just had brain surgery!"

He said...

"OK, dad:)"

I feel like the weight of the world has been lifted off of my shoulders. I feel like the knot in my stomach that has been there for months is loosening. I feel like I can breath deep once again. Wow what a relief!

And man, did I sleep well last night!

Thanks again guys, the lot of you have been totally awesome!:D:D:D

That's really great to hear Jas.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm thinking a benign tumor in such a young person may have been an abnormality that was there from the start. I would imagine that now that it's gone he probably doesn't have any greater risk of such things occurring than anyone else would. (I'm not a brain surgeon but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks guys!

Yah EZ, the Holiday Inn has done wonders for you buddy!

This "mass" is also known as a "Glioma". It was formed when skull was developing in utero. As the plates came together they basically "pinched off" a portion of his brain. So yah, there is basically no reason for ongoing concern that anything will "grow back" or anything like that. So in short, all of that life threatening scary stuff is behind us now, deeeep breath, whew!

Glioma's are rare and the location of Ethan's was rare making this whole deal exceptionally rare, even for the teams at U of M. Because of this they would like to "monitor" him for a while taking some additional MRI's down the road, just to see how things develop (or not develop in this case).

Basically, in short, I am super pumped!!!
