Great new Jas, good to be home and get your lives back to normal, not having that worry down deep in the gut.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks guys, appreciate it!

OK, fsh. You are probably right you tough old bird you. I suppose I have had enough "time off", huh.:)

During the boys nap today I started on bolting the transom into place. It was slow going, in and out of the boat, careful drilling, 4200 all over the place, clean up, etc. I'll tell ya what, it was sure a good feeling seeing that epoxy dust falling out rather than wood dust while I was drilling. I do think it's worth the extra steps to do the over drill, fill and re drill.

I might have gotten about 1/3 of the bolts in. I'll post up photo progress once I get er all done, maybe tomorrow.

Cheers!:D

Just trying to bring some normalcy back to ya Bro. I know you have been through a lot too, but the boat has proven to be good therapy.;)
Time flies. It seems like a bad/good dream and it was only 5 days ago.
I like Kevs remark..: "get Ethans boat ready".

Yah, I just wanted to call ya a "tough old bird", trying to find an excuse is all.

I got a few more bolts in the transom last night, we'll see if I can have that wrapped up today.:D

Well let's see some of those photos of the transom bolts all snug:p:D

What did you use to fill the drilled holes with? Epoxy resin with wood filler?

I think I am convinced that it is worth the effort to overdrill since we plan on keeping the boats for a while:)

Ah, um, er not quite done with the bolts just yet. Hopefully I can sneak out to the garage for about an hour and get that pounded out. Maybe I'll just say I am taking out the trash and sorting recycling or something.

Yup, epoxy and wood flour mixed up to the consistency of peanut butter. Yah, it's kind of a pain to do the extra steps but I am guessing that I'll start to rot before this piece of wood starts to rot.

OK, transom bolted in! Stainless steel and 4200 all around. I am seeing a series of bolts horizontally right above where the outdrive will go that some day might hold a swim platform;)

I'll hit all this with some of that gray paint again so it looks finished. I am also thinking that I can use a bunch of these bolts for stuff like blowers, batteries, power steering pump, wiring, hoses, and whatever else...

Man there were a lot of em, took me a while.

Eye bolts and ski tow not in yet as I think I'll spiff em up before I install them.

I was thinking I'd get an aluminum bracket built for a transducer and put it in this spot...

I opted not to put the screws back in here as I could see no good reason to, that transom isn't going anywhere with all those bolts in there. Besides, I'd be just putting holes in my all sealed up wood for no reason.

Cheers!
