I'm no expert by any means, but Bt Doctur just posted this - http://forums.iboats.com/forum/engi...-mercruiser-outdrives?p=10257956#post10257956

The 1.47 is very close.

Yah, 1.47 and 1.5 ar pretty much the same thing.

The reason I'm on the fence is the 1.81 is new, with a no fault, run it into the rocks and it will be replaced no questions asked warranty, ready to plug and play. Plus I have a stainless 23 pitch prop that will likely work with this setup on the V8.

The 1.47, while the correct ratio for the 5.7 is used, no warranty obviously, and needs to be split and maintenance completed (water pump at least).

If I sell the 1.81 I'll take a bath as I bought that one new, full retail price.

Pros and cons both ways, I spose...

Sell it - list it for about 75% of new cost, and someone will take it off your hands, especially if it is still under warranty. With the work you've put into this boat, you'll regret putting on an incorrectly geared outdrive.

Isn't the gearing in the upper? If so you can use your good lower foot with the 1:47 upper leg without having to do all the drive work.

I was going to suggest that. Stick the SEI lower on the 1.47 upper and you're covered.

When was the SEI bought? Isn't the SEI warranty 3 years? Or did you get it while on hiatus?

Well, the two main reasons to keep the 1.81 would be the warranty and the cash lost if I sell it. If I switch the uppers than I still lose the warranty and cash at the sale, ya know.

Yah, agree Peter. I'll just sell the new one and run the maintenance on the older one with the correct ratio. That'll work fine.

Hey, by the way, plumbing up this 5.7 I forgot that it had the fuel filter mounted to the front of the engine. So yesterday I removed the remote mounted fuel filter on the transom and moved the three way valve right up under the fuel pump. That eliminated about 5 feet of fuel line. Probably not necessary as the other set up was working fine but that'll make it just a smidge easier on the fuel pump.

Hey ya, I laid on these decals a while back, check it out...

Yup, even though she doesn't look anything like it, she is still an Islander. I wanted to keep that part as that is what she was built as. But you'll also notice that I added the "C" on the end there. That stands for "Custom". I figured since the hull is the only thing original, and every square inch is custom built I could do that:thumb:

When is your planned re-splash? I think I would be tempted to slide the SEI drive on, add the 23p prop and go for a burn, but that's just me:D

JAS, I stop in your threads (Still stalking the 26ft'er) often but not sure if I have ever posted. I may be the owner of an islander soon and I know I will already need a new trailer for it. Questions are: Are there single axel trailers that are strong enough for these boats (reduce tire/axel/bearing costs)? And What is the minimum total length of a trailer that will work for a 22ft'er?

I been hopping around this build frequently lately and Im sure Ill have pages memorized soon if I end up bringing one home...

Just crawling out from under my rock to catch up here. Congrats! Seeing the [allegedly] finished product tells me that losing the cabin was a good call, especially with the 26 waiting in the wings, er, woods. That's a nice, big open boat.

Yah, a single axle will work given it's beefy enough. But a boat as big as a 22 footer really ought to have a tandem axle underneath. As if I didn't have enough problems lately I ended up with a nail stuck in one of my tires and having that second wheel there helped my cause.

You should buy an Islander, they don't make them anymore, they are collectable!

Nope, not finished yet, 2 steps forward 10 steps back as usual for me!

Tooth ache? Yah right, that engine dies out in Lake Huron and we start floating to Kanuckland, we are in real trouble! Those Kanucks get a hold of ya you are done for! They'll make you eat Timbits till you puke!
