Glad to see ya not only back Jas, but you're even getting things accomplished.

Thanks man! Well, two challenges I have for the final push on this boat....

1. I'm way busy for the next two and half months with work stuff. I'll need to focus on carving out time to make this happen.

2. On the last run of the last day of the 15/16 ski season I trying to be cool, going way too fast, went from slush to ice, wrecked, spun my right ski while my knee tried hard not to spin. Well, the ski won. My ACL, MCL and Meniscus all paid the price on that move. So, for the past three weeks I've been hobbling around on the one good leg. It looks like I'll be headed down surgery road about a month from now too. Everything takes me waaaayyyyyy longer to do. In and out of the boat, up and down the stairs to my workshop, major chores. Heck, I can't even squat down. So yah, slooooowwww going here. Oh well, it is what it is, baby steps from here to the end.

I see your still an early riser, really sucks about the knee. That windshield is perfect for the boat, just goes to show if you wait long enough an opportunity will present itself.

AOK, check out the back third of this boat!

On the back deck I installed the blower scoops, cleats, deck light, stern light socket and the rear cockpit combing pad. Everything came together real nice....

On the gunwales I installed 8 of theses really cool stainless rod holders, combing pads, and stainless grab handles...

Going back a bit, I attempted to fill all the holes in these gunwales with Marine Tex a while back. Well, that ended up being a real struggle. It was really tough to sand that stuff down smooth and flat. Add to that my already chewed up gunwales, they were a mess. So, I decided to go textured all the way around on the gunwale decks. That way, my chewed up gunwales are blended right in and my tubers/skiers feel comfortable getting in and out of the boat. All good!

So back here on the port side you'll see the livewell hose routed up and around to the fish box...

20160402_054046.jpg

Then on the starboard side you'll see everything else all hooked up and installed....electrical, fuel lines, bilge hoses, trim/tilt pump stuff, steering, drive controls, the works...

20160402_054258.jpg

Under the engine I've got the livewell pump, twin auto 1100 gpm bilge pumps and blower/ventilation stuff, all rigged and ready for action. I'm really happy how all that stuff is coming together!

Just above the fuel filter you'll see the speedo line and the transducer cable routed, I just need to finish that up a bit. The last major build piece for the boat is the dog house. I'll start building that out here shortly.

Cheers guys!

Mornin Glen! Yah, this was the windshield that I settled for...

That is was a very cool piece but man, I just like this one sooooo much better....

I've already decided that the previous windshield will go on the Sea Nymph project when I get there. That one will be strictly a fishing boat so that windshield will fit the character of that boat perfectly:encouragement:

Very nice and neat Jason, any special plans/design for the Dog house?

Thanks man!

Yah, I can't do anything too fancy with the dog house. The dimensions of the V6 is are almost perfectly square and I would like to take up as little space as possible back there. So, that basically means I'll be building a very square box on this. I think the only thing I need to figure is whether I want to hinge the top to pop it open. Or, I may instead install some nice rubber castors hidden away on the bottom to just roll it out and away. I'll stew on that a little and see what makes the most sense.

Someone built a two-parter clam shell type dog house with the top portion hinged back for regular maintenance like fluid checks and the like. The bottom could be moved out of the way for the deep stuff like belts, filter, etc.

Watch the knee! You need it when the Admiral is chasing you waving a Honey-Do list in one hand and a skillet in the other! Or does J simply use a fridge magnet at eye level? lol

Welcome back, Glad to see such awesome progress. Sorry to hear about knee, I had a simaler situation, messed mine up when I was 19 now that I am 50  my skiing day are over, although I had a good 25 year run of skiing Black Diamonds all over Vermont even went out west twice. Looking forward to seeing a 2016 splash.

I'm really liking the updated look of the curved glass. :thumb:

Hey hows that Behr deck over holding up to the ins and outs of the boat work? The Rusto stuff has been bullet proof so far on my SN after a couple seasons on the water.

Yah, maybe a combo of a clam shell deal and casters on the bottom to roll it out. We'll see how that part shakes out.:cool-new:

Looking forward to seeing a 2016 splash.

Oh man, you and me both!

I was going through my gear and pulled these out...

I would have never dreamed that I wouldn't have been able to use em when I registered this ol Islander back in the day:grumpy::grumpy::facepalm::facepalm:

Hey hows that Behr deck over holding up to the ins and outs of the boat work?

It's pretty awesome on the feet and knees, comfortable and grippy. It's fairly easy to clean up and scrub up too. Though, street shoes leave black scuffs which are not so easy to get off unfortunately. For this Islander I'll be putting in snap in carpeting (eventually) which will be really nice for a family fun boat. For the other two future fishing boat builds I'll go vinyl for sure.

Cheers guys!:unconscious:

Thanks pckeen!

AOK, so, cleaned up the vinyl and threw everything in place up in the bow. It's like a living room up there!

Little paint work for the deck pieces, front plate up there, and a few other doodads and that bow area will be wrapped up.

Right, so check out helm on this Islander. These consoles actually originated from the big 26 footer. I made some modifications on em and here's what we've got...
20160402_171113.jpg

On the port side I just removed the old lock set and installed this sweet latch. That box will be perfect to store paperwork and other important stuff...
20160402_171133.jpg

Lot's going on at the captains helm! After making the modifications to the console I built out a padded backer and wrapped it in this really nice Nautolex grey vinyl...
20160402_171150.jpg

It took me a long time to get that right and looking good:joyous::encouragement:

Super cool ultra rare Starcraft gauge set went in first...
20160402_171232.jpg

Then the controls, I really wanted a dual handle set up for this boat...
20160402_171322.jpg

Then all my switches, ignition, horn, cigar lighter/map light/12V combo...
20160402_171308.jpg

For my switches I simply took some big stainless washers over to my local print shop and they labeled them up. I really like how these turned out...
20160402_171259.jpg

Then the steering wheel. This came off of a Hatteras that was probably valued at more than twice what my house is worth...

And then yesterday I made the final connections to the Lowarance Elite 7 Chirp GPS/Chartplotter/Fishfinder...
20160402_171202.jpg

Flipped it on and I was immediately marking fish!

I had no idea the garage floor dropped off that much right there.

Happy Sunday guys!:thumb::thumb::thumb:

Jasman.....long time no see! See what you started.....you post pics of the boat and now we got snow again. She is looking great so I anticipate we may see you on the water this year? I was gonna fire my rig up and get her ready to go as we have our first tournament in two weeks but with this snow and a cold week ahead I postponed again. BTW, what ya got going with the 26?

Jas work looks fantastic. Bow seating will be great for the kids or when you are able to go out w/o the kids. Truly awesome work on the consoles.

My only question is where are your feet going to go when sitting at the consoles?

Welcome back Jas. It is great to see the progress. Welcome to page 400 as well. This thread is the very first one I subscribed to when i first joined the forum and have read it in it's entirety. I have used a ton of your ideas in my build so thanks for that. Can't wait to see her in the water.
Sorry to hear about the knee. Sounds like that surgery is slated for after the school year which puts it right in the middle of boating season. Just one more fly in the ointment that is this build I guess. I'm sure you have that all worked out. It is a large enough boat to navigate with a brace on. Keep on keeping on, this looks like it will be the family's all time favorite boat when done. It has everything you have built in the past rolled into one boat. Just love the concept and the paint color/scheme is spot on. The bow seating is just insane. You could have your own boating talk show up there. (It would have to be a morning talk show with your schedule)

Yah man, full on blizzard conditions up this way part of the day yesterday. I think we are on a winter storm watch right now actually:facepalm:

Yup, I'd like to have this Islander done and ready to go by the time school lets out about mid June. But, I have a lot of unknowns between now and then so we will see.

The big 26 footer is still sitting out in the woods. The first step to that project is still building a pole barn. If I have the time, money, and the knee is repaired and ready for action, the pole barn might go up this summer. More likely though, next summer.

Your helm turned out amazing Jason, did you wet a line when you spotted the drop off and fish:D:lol:

Thanks Glen! Way back a few years ago I was yakkin here on the forum that I wanted it to look "classic new school". So, new, but not fancy or tricked out. Kinda classic looking but not old school. Knowhattamean? Anyhow, I feel like I accomplished a nice looking but still solid/utilitarian setup on that helm:encouragement:

Thanks osby! Yah, I didn't build those consoles to have legs go underneath. My feet will land comfortably under the steering wheel and on the passenger side toes/feet will just make their way under the console. It may look awkward in the photos but all works out really well.:thumb:
