Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I got it!

So this morning I was moving around the seating again just to be sure I was happy with what I see. Option #1 and #2 are scrapped and we are going with option #3! Check it out, so I went ahead and moved the captains chairs back further yet and I added in the center bow cushion...

Way better! That'll be a pretty cool setup!

Throw on the windshield, add in the consoles, BAM!

For the bench I'll still have these big removable cushions. I can still easily fit 4 full grown butts on those...

Now yah, I do recognize that I'll be losing those two hatches there where the captains chairs will go. So, I was thinking I'd just put two access hatches on the seat box sides instead, like this...

I could even install a pair of those recessed tackle box deals like yo...

So yah I'm amped about this!

Ya know, yesterday I said I just took a hundred steps backward (and ya, I did).

But today, I feel like this is a new beginning, knowwhattamean. Excellent!

That's the idear I had.

You need a windshield.

I really hate to post this up too soon, but I am way too psyched to keep it to myself.

When I was looking for a windshield for the Sea Nymph it seemed all but impossible to find one for reasonable $$.

Well not this time, 5 minutes on eBay and 200 bux, including shipping I scored this, brand new!

Awesome!!!! That was originally built for a Lund Tyee, super boats.

Now, the fella has yet to ship it too me so things could still go bad. Shipping a windshield can be tricky business. I do hope it gets to me with no issues. So long as it does, it'll be perfect!

OK, so this project...

DESTROY, BUILD, DESTROY, BUILD...

I do believe I am through with the second "destroy" phase and am ready for the second "build" phase.

I had to cut the very tops of the lower cabin bulkhead as I want to have a nice, seamless transition between those seat boxes and the new bow deck. You can see I had a whole variety of tools out to make that happen...

1" thick epoxied plywood and lots of 5200 wasn't all that easy to cut an (awkward) straight line through.

Once I get the new deck on it'll be a whole bunch of fill/fare/sand to make it nice and smooth. No prob, just take some time.

Then I ripped out the cabin deck and did a rough clean up...

OK, ready for rebuild. Bow deck structure is next on the list.

Cheers guys:becky:

Sounds like a great heavy metal song... Oh wait, it is one:

Little soundtrack for your next tear down Jas: I find the solo about 3:20 especially effective for tearing stuff up.

Also, nice score on the windshield...I may be in the minority, but I think this islander looks much better with her top off.. (especially since you now have a cabin boat that will house a small army)....

Later...

Are you sure that's going to be wide enough for your boat?

I had seen that windshield earlier this week and thought about you. Price seemed way reasonable for the minor damage they were talking about. I was gunna pm you but I figured you prolly had a plan and didn't want to muck up the works. Nice score.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well Jas, you certainly stunned me by lopping off the cabin  Maybe because I have always liked boats with cabin space )especially when I have the grandkids aboard( and now more so that it seems none of the other tin makers are producing them anymore. I also enjoy them as my motel room for trips to Isle Royale or when traveling from one port to the next for a weekend trip. Guess I am not much into just running around a lake burning gas for fun. :) yes a diehard fisherman I am.

Either way,,,,,,,good luck and happy observing and debating on the new direction on the boat.
