Yah guys, she pulls through the water very, very nice. I haven't yet put her on the scale but I'd be surprised if she were even 20#

She's been neglected so I do have a smallish project here, should be fun! :thumb:

Late to the game... but the new "non metallic" rig looks very cool!! Your choice for rail as SS will look terrific!

Glad to see it back on the ole trailer... feels like it is getting mucho closer to completion!!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK fellas, Stainless it is, we'll run with it! I think I have a couple of options for the termination. I could certainly mount it the way it's built. Or, I could cut the end short and cap it with...

Suncor Rail Fitting

Or, I could just go with the 110 deg. fitting (70 deg.) like BF suggested and the 60 deg. base. That'd mean I'd need to just fudge 5 deg. on each fitting which wouldn't be so bad. I think I'd have the flexibility to do that.

I hope it'll be cool addition to the boat eh:thumb:

---------------------------

Hey Steve - yup, the bottom of the hull is already painted up. I did that a while back. I tipped the hull up on her side rather than flippen her;) I used lots of cables n' pullies n' stuff to get her up.

-----------------------------

OK, prepare for a let down, nothing fancy here. Zero HP canoe found her way on the property...

Super cool score on the race canoe. Was trying to figure were the motor went, oh yes on the seat in the middle.;) Looks like it will be a fun little project & a great way to stay in shape. Have fun with her Jas.:thumb:

Sweet looking ride!

Now that right there ^^^ is stinkin' funny, I don't care who you are.... Nice, Lokonn....

And I thought Teamster would have asked about a conversion to a tiller, but he comes in w/ a roundhouse right to the junk:

That canoe looks cool, I like the stabilizing "bump outs" a fat guy like myself could even get in that thing without rolling it. If I had one of those maybe I wouldn't be so heavy.

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well guys, two weeks of major house renovation and a week in Florida for a biz conference makes the month of June a gonner. Yikes, I can't believe it's July already!!! Man, I really need to carve more time out for this Islander project, ugh.

OK, few minutes here and there get me the seat box hatch covers all finished up with the Deck Over...
P1100835.jpg

I am still really liking this Deck Over, great stuff, very happy with it. I'm nearly certain I'll be skipping snap in carpet now.

K, so, I wanted to make the gunwales and stern deck nice and solid, so here's what I did: I eBayed up 6 windshield supports and installed 2 on each gunwale and 2 at the stern. See...
P1100834.jpg

Along with the 1/2" ply backer these really make the whole thing feel very solid. Should be nice when folks are climbing aboard off the dock or from the swiim platform.

I'm making my way closer to paint work too. Prepping the top sides here, I believe I counted something like 40 holes just on the starboard side gunwale alone...
P1100843.jpg

Some are small, some medium, some gigantic and ugly! I'll be using a variety of different methods to fixem, rivets, JB, 5200, big bolts...

But my favorite method is to just cover up a whole bunch of them with a 4 foot long Bert's Track...

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Just so's you're aware...my son used this on his VW Bus to restore his floor pans. I researched it, and this is some BAD STUFF!!!! Been around a Long time and has been used on Tin Boats a LOT!!!! It also works on corroded fuel tanks!!!

Welcome to POR-15? - We Know What Permanent Means!

Check out their Projects and Testimonials

It's pricey @ $40 bucks a quart but when it cures it's like STEEL!!!! They also have a Kolor Coat in several colors. I think I'm gunna paint my utility trailer with it just so I can see how it lays down.:joyous:

Bit by bit and step by step, it is all coming together...
Noticed you mentioned the bazillion holes in your gunwales...as I once saw a very smart man post...
Just thinking out loud here...
Would wood work?
Ya know, make some nice panels to cover over the entire gunwales, add a touch of class, a save you some prepping and painting...

Good to see ya back at it. You'll be on the water in no time.

Where in Florida were you? We were down there the past 2 weeks...

Oops, stoopid operator of a smart phone

Tracks look like they're a good cover-up @gunwale. Functional too, so even better.......

The deck coating sounds like it's pretty good stuff....

Keep on getting closer :)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OGA - thanks man, I had all sorts of ideas on how do make that happen. Those windshield supports had infinite adjustments so that seemed super easy.

WOG - Yah, I have heard great stuff about POR, just haven't used it I guess. No idea why I haven't tried it yet actually...

Yah guys, I was in St. Petes beach. The beach is really nice there but with no boat, no fishing gear, no family, and conferencing all day, the trip was a bit of a drag. Laying around on the beach just isn't my deal ya know. I did visit a few very nice steak/seafood places though!
