Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

That's a good point I never thought of... my starchief has those vents but it's an outboard model, I was fully planning on not installing tubes and using them just for a vent, and to cover up those big holes.
I'm thinking they put them there to vent the fuel fumes outta the gunnels. Mine has an 18 gallon tank sitting on each side underneath and behind those vents; a full tank sitting on a rotten deck is never a good thing.

There's nothing like having a good sewer hose that works!

Ahhh, such sweet memories that sewer hose brings back...:untroubled:

Smart score there, Kimosabee...

Does that mean if your standing next to the vent exhaust it's going to smell like POOPYAIR??:painkiller::D

Well... when you gotta go, you gotta go!

Never been on the business end of a fully filled RV sewer hose, I'm sure it's great fun:painkiller:

Now when it comes to the trim set-up I would suggest that if all the wiring is still good and the switch is funtional as well as the limit and sender to install it to Merc spec's (I/O stickies has a basic wiring diagram) just a closed loop system with a few switches.

Hey fanny! Yah, well, for the trim sender, I'll be skipping stat basically as I'm not installing a trim gauge. Now for the limit switch, yah, I'll wire that all up properly. Everything looks intact and in good shape so I expect it should function just fine. If it end up giving me fits, I'll just bypass as the fellas have suggested.

Cheers man:joyous:

Doooood,......

A new book out that might come in handy when the boat is done,..

I know some of the contributing anglers, I would expect it to be a good learning tool if your not already familiar with the techniques,..

Walleye Trolling Book | Learn to Catch Walleyes Like the Pros

Thanks for the link teamster! I really only have a basic knowledge of trolling techniques so a resource like that will be very helpful.

Steven, Gib - On the hose and venting...

Funny, I actually kicked this venting thing around a long time ago, check it out...

http://forums.iboats.com/starcraft-boats/head-scratcher-460466.html

There were actually a variety of theories brought up in that thread, all pretty darn good too!

I suppose I never actually close out that thread, so, here's my thinking:

Right, wrong, or otherwise, I'll be running that hose from the midships scoops all the way back and into the dog house. That venting will be used for intake. And then of course the two scoops at the stern will be used as exhaust. For the exhaust I'll have an inline blower on each hose that will run right into the bilge.

That's the plan for now anyway:friendly_wink:

Have an awesome Sunday guys:hungry:

Sounds like a good plan Jason, I bought two inline blowers as well and was thinking about putting one in each exhaust line.

All right guys, I have been burning through (literally) my wood pile pretty quickly over the last few weeks keeping the garage warm while I've been working in there. I do believe I have just enough wood to keep the house warm for the rest of the winter, barely. So, I think I'm going see about finding some inside work here as best I can.

This morning I was eyeballin the Evinrude kicker. I yet have some routine maintenance to work through there so I think I'll go that route for a bit here.. Most of it I can handle. But, I have an electric start problem that I'm sure I'll need a hand with when I get there.

Hopefully my local dealer has a water pump on hand (that's reasonable $$) so I can jump on that tomorrow.

All right, so we are into February. Bout one more month of solid winter here maybe?:smow::smow:

OK, got the porthole wrapped up!

Here are my two pieces of 1/4" and the frame...

So I ran 3M Marine Silicone, installed the first piece, let cure, cleaned the glass, ran Silicone again, dropped in the 2nd piece, let cure, cleaned up, turned out like this...

Compared to the original...

I tried hard to keep things clean especially that inside glass, success!

I do like the nice new, clear glass inside that worn out vintage frame. Looks kinda coo:thumb:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Thanks fellas! Honestly, it was a big pain to install/clean the two separate pieces of glass. If I had actual money it would have been way easier to just buy that 1/2" thick piece and drop it in. Bah, alls well that ends well.

I do hope that porthole will be a neat/unique feature on the Islander someday:joyous:

(no cats were harmed in this porthole project:tiger:)

Good job, Jas. Now you have to add a curtain behind the porthole for when the ladies use the facilities.
