Allrighty, I reached way back in the scrap wood pile and dragged out the original fake wood cabin bulkheads, trimmed em up for a dry fit...
P1090868.jpg

Man am I glad I held onto those - they'll make great templates! I have a bunch of very fine tuning to get em to fit exactly right.

Then I grabbed the Mercruiser wiring harness coughed up from Thumper the Baja. I was thinking it would be too short and have to scab in a bunch to get the extra length I need. Nope! Fit perfectly! Wrapped some split loom around it and plugged er in...
P1090872.jpg

Then I spent a bunch of time in "IO mechanic position" (belly/back/side/reaching/awkward) making connections: Batt cables, trim power and hoses, power steering, sea water, continuity wires...

I think I'm pretty close to where I want to be for rigging this engine, for the moment anyhow.

Have an excellent Sunday!:highly_amused:

Good one J! A lil everyday will get you there. Do yourself a favor and test that harness end to end for continuity and try to keep it in it's relaxed state as much as possible to make all your connections easily accessable even if it means adding to the leads. This is the time where dialectric grease is your friend on ALL connections.

Wait, I'm confused now  (it happens often ;) )

Maybe it was the propane fumes, or lack of O2 in my sealed garage....

...I must have missed the plan, was there a drawing of what the layout will be, or is it a big surprise?!

and looks great, I wish I was half as good as you are :)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Hey fellas, thanks for swinging through and bumping me along. For the past few days I have been thinking hard about all the remaining jobs yet to be completed before this Islander is ready. About a million, roughly.

Reality is setting in that I won't have her wrapped up with several through sea trials run by the end of March for our Easter Vacation. I just can't figure the man hours needed to work with the man hours available, ya know. And, like I mentioned before, I really don't want to rush, cut corners or make mistakes.

All the same, I'll keep plugging along and we'll see how close I can get.

So, I started picking through and pulled some bleacher wood (fir) from my stack...

These will eventually become my cabin bulkheads and door. Started trimming those up.

I also dug through a box of parts and grabbed a couple of console pieces that I think I'd like to use...

These came off of the sacrificial Arrow Craft glasser.

I'm pretty sure I can make them work on this Islander. I started to do a little planning and you can see I marked for two new holes that will need to be cut out for all the necessary gauges. I'll take the painted/labeled right off of those. I'm thinking the stainless will look nice up against the wood console/bulkhead.

Welcome to Monday guys:joyous:

No trim gauge? I know all say they are useless but most IOs I have seen have them.

Yah my gauge real estate is a little tight up there so I opted to remove the least useful. I'd get rid of the speedo too if the hole wasn't already cut out to that size, eh.

Dash panel looked strangely familiar to me....

Yah me too.

I guess I was thinking it looked a lot like you.

And then a lot like you with your favorite red bow on.

Jas, I think your plan to keep chugging away is a good one. I like the mix of natural stained wood and stainless steel. If she's not ready there's always the Nymph! :p :D

Thanks fellas! Yah, gauges are white face so along with the stainless and doug fir I'm kinda hoping for a "new school" "classic" sorta look, knowwhattamean:joyous:

Yup, I have pretty well resigned to the fact the Islander won't be ready for the Easter Hilton Head trip. I was a little grumpy about it for a minute there but I do have the Sea Nymph nearly ready for action. And hey, she's a pretty sweet ride:thumb:
