Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Kenneth, welcome to iboats man!

I'm honored that you took the time to read the whole thing buddy, yikes that's a long road!

Well, this morning I was working on fabricating up some downrigger gear for the Sea Nymph which will play double duty for this Islander. Sooooooo, technically speaking, I was working on her this morning, right:D

Maybe another 6 weeks or so she'll be pulled up to the shop ready to run the final leg. Stay with me buddy, we'll get there!:)

Hey, post up your project so we can check it out eh!

Wow, Kenneth - can't believe you read this whole novel... I could have given you the cliff notes:

1. Guy name Jas lives up in the nothern woods of Michigan.
2. He is blessed with a nice family - gaggle of cute kids, a wife who must have horribly impaired vision, etc...
3. He buys a big metal boat. Tinkers with it for about a year.
4. Cheats on that boat with a little tin mistress (starcraft jet star) and dish-rags the Islander for about 6 months.
5. He sells the jet star - (this is the tear jerker part of the story that will put women in the seats when the movie comes out).
6. He moves the Islander in to the garage and acts like he's going to work on her.... Drops in the engine, changes some bellows and farts around with some wood seat bases for a few weeks.
7. The story bogged down a bit at this point due to battery placement debate (the editors have suggested he cut that for the movie version).
8. About this time, he buys a mustard yellow and blue smoker craft named walleye slime... tinkers with it for a couple of weeks and sells it.
9. Acts like he is going to refocus on the Islander, but the story takes a 180 when he buys a Sea Nymph out of nowhere.
10. Moves the Islander out to pasture and gives the Sea Nymph dibs on the garage space. Islander camps out on the property for a few months and her trailer starts to rust.
11. Jas finishes and splashes the sea-nymph - (this is the triumphant part of the story - think Chariots of Fire for the musical score).
12. Present day: Will Jas return to his flagship boat project in Year (Season) 3?).. Who knows, but I 'll be tuned in...

Of course, you have to read like 9 or 10 threads to put this story together so maybe they will make this a sticky...

Yah, that's not bad right there pmc!

Maybe two other big/fun pieces...

1. OMC Stringer (giant hole in the stern) to Mercruiser conversion.

2. The life a death of a Baja named Thumper.

:D

I can't believe I left out Thumper (the giving tree of boats!) and the glasser center console that coughed up some pretty good schwag before meeting her untimely death...

The OMC to Merc Conversion deserves props as well....and also you doing serious damage to one of your sandwich grabbers while flirting with the sea nymph...

I also forgot to mention your son's successful surgery, which was also a big high point of the story!!!!!!

Now, carry on, back to your regularly scheduled programming. :)

Umm, hello?

MirroCraft??

Not even an annotated footnote?

Then there's the oh so brief Starcraft American's stint in the boat yard. May have even set the come & gone speed record..

He also gets used by his wife, she uses his ADD skills for her own use as well. Seems I remember a full kitchen gut job and remodel. He's also the only person on earth with a 36 hour day....I'm afraid the madness will never stop!

There was a 4Winns here for a few days too;)

Yah, I'm on to the great room remodel for the winter months now:rolleyes:

Sums it up in a soap opera-ish way

Batt placement was/is pretty much like day time soaps. Multiple bouts of amnesia:rolleyes::facepalm:

Blood letting, par for the course in backyard boat building:)

Prayers for you and yours brother!

E is 100% SBB! Prayers are for nothing but joy and thanks now my friend!!:D

Man, he is totally 100%, growing like crazy, Jen says he eats like a full grown man!

Ethan's was such a rare case they have compiled research that I know will benefit others in time, and that is really good stuff.

Actually we have our final visit down to U of M Med this Friday. Those docs down there are the best on the planet!:D

All right, since this thread ended up resurfacing I feel obligated to post some sort of progress.

I've completed a second rod holder bracket for the SN which will also be used on this Islander. I love that I can use all my fishing/rigging gear double duty, really helps stretch my boat building dollar;):)

Jas, I really need you to finish this boat. I'm closing in on an Islander of my own, and I need more ideas of what to do!

Skagen, you do realize that it is just a pipe dream???? I think this thread/boat is just his excuse to keep finding other ones to work on so he can offer up more abuse to the glassers and still be able to say he has a "Project Boat" to work on. ;)

Been awhile since i have been on so had to come by and harass you there Jas.

although i am with Sakgen and the rest, let's start back up on the ole girl whatta ya say???

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Roger, yur about to get a knuckle sandwich! With extra spicy nosebleed sauce:eek:

:p:D

OK, yah, she'll be back in the garage soon enough here fellas. I am itching to get back on the Islander project too! I was thinking Christmas she would swap out with the SN but now I'm thinking closer to Thanksgiving. Lord knows I'll need the long Michigan winter to get her wrapped up.

As you know, a lot of the rebuild process is just the thinking/stewing/hashing out stuff and I've still been thinking a bunch about specific jobs yet to complete. Just kinda playing them out in my head.

I am excited to finish up the 2nd half of this adventure. From here forward we should see this boat actually take some shape!

Have a great weekend guys:)
