Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Roger, yur about to get a knuckle sandwich! With extra spicy nosebleed sauce:eek:

:p:D

OK, yah, she'll be back in the garage soon enough here fellas. I am itching to get back on the Islander project too! I was thinking Christmas she would swap out with the SN but now I'm thinking closer to Thanksgiving. Lord knows I'll need the long Michigan winter to get her wrapped up.

As you know, a lot of the rebuild process is just the thinking/stewing/hashing out stuff and I've still been thinking a bunch about specific jobs yet to complete. Just kinda playing them out in my head.

I am excited to finish up the 2nd half of this adventure. From here forward we should see this boat actually take some shape!

Have a great weekend guys:)

Here we go again, he probably forgot what the decision was for the Batteries so we will have to go through that again!!!

Ok fellas, I have a legit update for the Islander! I brought it up to the garage today!

Step #1: Retrieve big Starcraft from wood

Step #2: Clean garage

Step #3: Back in the big girl

Step #4: Levitate (with V6 installed, heavy, tricky)

Step #5: Back in Sea Nymph

Done! That easy!!!

Ok, ok, I'm not that good. There were like 482 intermediate steps involved.

Man, I was super excited to haul this Islander back up to the house!

Maybe I missed it, maybe it's yet to be discussed, but are you putting the windshield back on above the cabin?

I ask cause man with the Islander hanging like that it looks about like it should on plane and it looks tough w/o the top glass. I like it.

Also (and maybe it's just me) is the SN sticking it's tongue out the door?

Hey old friend, great to see ya!:joyous:

Yah, just bringing it up to the shop for now. Time and money will dictate the progress on both of these boats.

Congrats!

Yah, I'm real glad I was able to get her in before any major snow load hit us.

I spose I could wedge the Mirro Craft in there somewhere eh!

SWEET!!!!!!!! Here we go!

Bah, I won't be moving that quick, trust me man. I'll be in no rush from here on. I'm hoping a little at a time should put me in the water summer of 13.

Jas I have free time, so if you need help just ask I have tools!!!!!!

Doooooooddd!!! What was that for!!!?????

Oh yah, now I remember. Yah, I toooootally deserved that :becky:

How's the home renovations going?

Oh boy DJ, did my bride call you?? As I was loading the big girl into the garage, Jen popped her head out and said....

"Now you better finish XYandZ before you even think about working on any of these boats in here!"

:fear:

Maybe I missed it, maybe it's yet to be discussed, but are you putting the windshield back on above the cabin?

Oh yah, windshield will go back on. That should probably be one of the last pieces of the install before she floats actually.

Also (and maybe it's just me) is the SN sticking it's tongue out the door?

It kinda looks that way yah. I had about a 1/2" at the tongue and this much at the prop...

Jas, I have a 25ft Chieftain that I am going to do a total rebuild on. It is currently on the trailer but once I remove the engine I wanted to build some sort of dolly to get it lower to the ground. It looks like you are just using furniture dollies? Anything special to get them to work?

Yup, just have some furniture movers under there. Threw a spare tire on the movers, then some thick foam chunks on top of the spare tires to protect the hull. That set up makes it real easy to move the boat around the garage (well when the 2nd boat isn't in there anyway).

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

All right, I am officially back on the Islander project!

For the past few days I have been cleaning and organizing the two boats and garage, man it's taking a while getting everything where it should be.

I've also done some sitting, staring, thinking, so game on:joyous:

Here's where I left off back in May (wrecking stuff)...

http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...-islander-rebuild-369247-204.html#post3781174

I decided to just scrap and start over on that port side seat box. I hate re doing stuff, rats. Ah well, when you have the intelligence of a below average squirrel, doing stuff two and three times comes with the territory:rolleyes:

So here's where I'm at as of this morning...
P1090762-1.jpg

(Uh, that photo seems foggy, sorry bout that)

You can see that I have installed some fat chunks of alum angle all around the cooler (SS Screws and 5200) to mount the box to.

I was originally going to just have this be a fish box with a drain only. After seeing how much fun the boys have watching fish swim around in the SN, I've decided that I must install a fresh water pump for that cooler. Just gotta do it, shouldn't be that much extra work for me.

That Starboard box needs a final sanding and will be just about ready for install.
