Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

At $2100 I am betting you made some cash on it too!

Only if you take out time and materials! :p I did pay only $200 for the boat but I certainly spent more than $2k on it to fix it up. However we got 5 fun seasons of use out of it and you can't put a price on that. :D Interestingly I was only hoping to get $1500 out of it. I figured what was undesirable about it for me would be the same for others as well. I listed it for $1995 expecting to take $1500. Rickairmedic told me I was nuts and to list it for $2250 OBO. I thought he was nuts but did it anyway. In probably like 2 weeks I only got maybe 2 inquiries on it but one person saying they were a serious buyer and would like to take a test ride. He bought it. It only takes 1!

Well fellas, I am packing up for a climbing trip to Seneca Rocks WV. So, no progress on the rig for about a week but man it's going to be nice to get on some rock! Cheers!

I painted the bottom of my hull off my back with the rear end of the boat lifted off the trailer.

You will be used to crawling around on rocks after your trip so you'll feel right at home :)

Jas have you thought about electrical? Let me know where you stand on that. I'll go the extra mile in documentation if you or anybody else needs it.

I think I have a handle on mine. With your engine swap it might not be straight forward.

Gosh, I'd love to see it all put together!

I actually have put some thought into things. I do have the donor set up but I'll be putting in new gauges, switches, steering and pretty much everything else. So, I am pretty much starting from scratch.

I need to do a lot of reading in this area yet, thanks!

Thanks fellas! Next on the list is to shore up those gunwales. I think I have them pretty well built in my head, now I just need to find the time to make it happen in the real world. Cheers!

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

OK guys, I haven't had the time to work on the old girl as I have been finishing up the tree fort for the kiddos. My 2 year old had a birthday party yesterday and I wanted things to be ready for them. We had about 30 kids over at my house yesterday ranging from 0 - 6 in age (ok, maybe only 8 kids but it felt like more).

So here is the set up just so I can post something on my thread and not think I am a big slacker.

Three big swings and one for the little ones, a couple of big tractor tires for climbing on...

The tree fort which is about 12' x 12'. Slide, reinforced to hold my 240# dad in law (he checked). Tractor tire sand box under the fort. I still would like to put a roof on and a fireman's pole up or something cool like that.

Campfire area with some nice maple stumps for sitting, telling fish stories, and roasting mellos...

OK, with that out of the way for now, we'll see what we can do on the rig this week.

Cheers Guys!

Cool fort J:) Nice work.

Looks like the stuff we used to play on up north at summer camp. I've been working on a fort at our cottage but I don't spend enough time there to finish it. Usually taking the boats out while I'm up there too.

Fireman pole would be cool, makes me wish I was a kid again:D

Yup, we love it. Quiet, out in the country, pretty sweet deal! They had a blast climbing on all that stuff yesterday.

Hey buddy, you'll find me swinging on those just about as much as the little ones. I built it big and beefy for us big kids. Down the road I am thinking climbing wall, zip line and a bunch of other stuff. Um yah, all for the kids, right?

Awesome back yard. The kids can hang out in the fort while the grownups hangout at the pit :)

I don't wanna grow up, I'm a jasoutside kid....Dude I'd luv to of had a dad or neighbor like you...When I grew up{something my wife sez never happened} all we had was found sticks and cardboard boxes, our swing consisted of one of us hanging from a limb and the others swinging from our legs, TooTallSlim had it ruff as I recall ;), but it's fun to run into him nowadays and watch him tie his shoes with out bending down or over :D

Thanks boys! Yah, all in good fun, eh!

Now listen, I need to focus! Gunwales man, make it happen, I can do it! I just need to steal a few hours of concentrated effort on this! No more swinging on the swings until I finish that gunwale job, ok, ok!

Cheers Fellas!

All I can say is WOW!! I've been away taking care of family business and I came back to see how my 2 year older twin was doing... You are getting after it! I have the center console conversion of an Islander and it's really cool to see another 22' Starcraft taking shape! You have me wound up and ready to get after mine again! I'll keep a closer eye on your progress and by the way Great Job!!

Thanks 5 Speed! Great to have you back in the game! Yah, I need to get back to picking away at the rig, one small step at a time. Cheers!
