J you are facing some serious "tyranny of the majority" here;)

I agree with jcup...SS rails would look sweet and functional:)

What's the status of the mercruiser these days?

And by the way, change my pick from #3 to option #5, with stainless handrails running down both sides... Okay, now I have to go work on my holiday :).

Ah poop. Another #5, you guys are going to overthrow this benevolent dictatorship I have established.

Enjoy working on your rig, can't say it enough - I sure love the lines on those Holiday's!

Yah, you boys are definitely a united front to be reckoned with! My only hope is to show the lot of ya my plan with the inner gunwale along with aluminum trim job. I think it's going to look pretty darn cool, hope you fellas do too!

The Merc is patiently waiting it's turn for my attention. I think as it stands right now here would be my condensed list of things that need to be done to get to that V6...

  • Finish the gunwales
  • Solid clean/prime/paint of the inside transom skin
  • Build/seal/install the transom boards
  • Seal up all the holes from transducers/kicker/what have you on the transom skin
  • Complete the monster job of cleaning of the entire hull interior
  • Gluvit
  • Complete the monster job of prep/clean/sand/prime/paint/repeat for the boat hull
  • Then, on to the power plant

Man, do I have a long way to go. I will be pretty jealous of you guys flying around the lakes in your rigs as I am sanding for the 3rd time! All good though! Summer of 11 is still the goal. I'll get there, one step at a time....

A pressure washer is your friend for some of those steps.

Yah, I tried that when I had her over to the self serve wash the other day. Most of the stuff came up pretty well. There is one corner where it looks like it was used as a spittoon for a few years - really thick tar type substance stuck/dried on there. All I can think is that somebody must have spilled a qt. of 10W30 and left it to bake. I'll post up a shot when I get to that part.

J...I hate to be the guy putting pressure on you as far as the deadline...but I truly feel that you will be splashing the rig this season:D

(and using the pressure washer as EZ suggested doesn't count;))

The reason I mention this is that it seems like you work on the rig every day.

Don't get me wrong, if you want to take your time and make everything perfect(seems like you are) I could see this extending thru next winter as you finish the interior in your garage.

Just a thought.:)

No mean a PRESSURE washer. With like some real PRESSUE. Gas engine preferred. I borrowed one from my father-in-law to clean out the inside of mine and it was invaluable, especially in prep for the Gluvit.

OOOooooo, boy. Wouldn't that just be sweet!!!!

I suppose in my head there are two major things that may end up eating away at this summer.

First would be that Merc. Like I said in earlier posts, I have high hopes for it to have minimal issues. If I am wrong it will surely take some time (and cash) to work it out. I am tempted to just take it over to the pros and have them drop it in but I'd love to save the cash and would really like to get to know all about that motor/outdrive in order to future work myself if I can help it.

The second would be stitching up all of the seating. I suppose I just have this vision of me sewing away through the winter months of 10/11 (in a rocking chair by the fire, right?). And along with that, all of the little things that need to be tied up at the end of a project like this. You all know how that goes.

Another thing that happens late summer is the bow comes out in preparation for the early archery season.

Hey, we'll see how this all shakes out! I am nearly certain that she can get in the water this summer for a water trial at least.

You are right about me working on it every day though. I am actually very conscious about getting at least one thing done on the boat everyday, no matter how small. Some days that is just standing there for a few minutes staring at it and thinking about the next step, or fab work, or paint, or plumbing, or the helm, or pizza.... Today, I picked up a can of Zinc Chromate Self Etching Primer! I just need to keep forward motion, ya know!

Yah, I thought about renting one from the local rental center. I am on well water (low pressure), will it work to it's full capacity with such low pressure from my hose or does that not make any difference? I would think the washer would want to push out way more that what I could supply??

I am keeping the bow!!!!

I am however selling off all of my sea kayaking gear (heartbreaker big time for me) as I know if I am on the big water it'll likely be in this Islander from here on!

If you wanted to combine your love of bows and your love of boats...you could always rig up 12 halogen lights on the gunwales...install a generator...and do some bowfishing:)

I skipped archery season last year myself since I was occupied with my 5.5hp johnson and fishing almost every day;)

Should not be a problem. I ran one off a well for a few years. All they need is a good supply of water and they create the pressure.

On my Jupiter project, I got the motor running, took it for a test run (sitting on lawn chairs) to make sure I was happy with it. Then I brought it home and did the deck and interior. I then used it that way for a season. Then I painted it.

Sounds llike an option, especially since it ain't like you're gonna flip an Islander to paint it!

Thanks, yes I did sell it the end of last season. I got $2100 for it which I felt was an excellent price for a boat and motor that old and of the somewhat undesirable closed bow style. I was very pleased. It was turn-key though and I could prove it. Apparently its new owner has a cabin on an island on the one lake I frequent. I'm hoping to see it out and about.

Bummer you had to sell but I am betting you are way more comfortable in your SS (as soon as you get that windshield straightened out) - suits your needs more, eh! At $2100 I am betting you made some cash on it too!
