Jas, since you will be too busy training for your iron-man mudder, why don't you just send those tools down to me and I'll keep them safe for you....

I have to buy the special wrench to remove the retainer nut to replace my u-joint assembly. If you happen to need that one (I think you are replacing some rusted u-joints too), I can ship it to you on loaner. lemme know.... And by the way, you need to grow some gnarly facial hair for that race... maybe some handlebars or something?

GA - I really like your new avatar. I can't say for sure but it looks like you are going about a zillion miles an hour (give or take)!

Mccraney - I tried to get the beard going, just about three weeks. The wife said it was hideous and she would no longer date me. Had to go, bummer. I'll pm ya on that bearing retainer wrench. I haven even put any time into that outdrive actually.

Re: 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I don't know anything about a ToughMudder competition, nor am I inclined to participate, but I've skied Squaw Valley, CA many times!:D:) Makes me miss California, Utah & Lake Tahoe. Cool competition w/ a twist of the group/team 'we all finish by helping each other' component.

Good luck, if your 1/2 as committed to the ToughMudding as the Islander/Jet builds, the Mob expects a Top10 finish! Where will the mudding be this year? There was another clip from a Pennsylvania mud run.....

I don't need the alignment setup tools, but we'd gladly hang on to 'em fer ya, they be shiny! We like shiny!:D

Yah man, if I could finish I'd be happy. I need about 15 maybe eve 20 lbs. off this fat carcass to feel good about it:rolleyes:

So this morning I worked on the Gimbal Housing some more. It was a little frustrating and I wrestled with it for just about two hours. See, I free handed the bolt/mounting holes instead of using a drilling jig to keep my drill perfectly straight. So, a couple of holes were just barely a little tight.

I ended up pulling the whole transom assembly on and off two more times in an effort to get things all lined up. Definitely a two man job! (Too bad it was just me, rats.)

I was just about to give up, pull it off again, and re drill a couple of holes - I gave it one more effort and got it, no extra drilling! Whew:)

Here is the whole assembly, it looks just like the photo up a ways only this one has seven more bolts in it:D

I didn't crank it all the way down yet. I wanted to go through the manual one more time and stare at it for a little while just to make sure I didn't miss anything before I lock it down for ever and ever, amen.

I know it doesn't seem like much but that felt like a great big victory right there ^^^^^:D

The whole rest of the driveline is based on what I do here so I really want to make sure it's right. Ya know:)

Looking good, soon enough you'll be swinging that 4.3 in overhead & putting it in it's permanent resting place......

I figure you just need to get up a half hour earlier, drink 1 more pot of coffee & get to cranking on the Islander. The 15+/- will melt right off. And it includes a bonus: mob gets to see Islander progress;) Your choice for now which 1 you hold as primary purpose. 'Cause we all know which way the mob leans.

Of course, a half hour earlier means you'll be getting up before the West Coast iboaters hit the rack:D

Mission accomplished getting the stern drive installed! Now you've only got steps 11,821-11,986.3 left to go.....

Good luck w/ both endeavors. Just like the iboaters, the ToughMudders will needle, harass and drag you kicking & screaming across the finish line:).

Ok really off topic here:

Watch the video in post 3317 to the end and let it bring up the related video's and watch the one called "Put it down on me." That chick is HOT!!!!!!!!!!

Her program is one that we all should subscribe to. ;););)

Back on topic now:
Jay, I've said it before and I'm gonna say it again, if you need help with the motor/drive give me a shout.

Yah, that would have been excellent to have another set of hands on that transom assembly. I really didn't see that coming.

Ya kinda need to have a guy lifting/pushing on the gimbal housing and bolts on the outside of the boat while another fella is on the inside lifting/pushing/lining bolts on the inside.

Anywho, thanks for the offer man!

-------------------------------------------------

One thing I forgot to mention...

As I was putting the two halves together I noticed that there was a little loop of the trim sending wires that got caught behind the transom shield. Had I not noticed I would have cranked it down, probably cut the wires and had all sorts of big problems from there.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention that potential issue for any of you guys headed down the Merc install road.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I stood, stared, read through, thought through, fondled that transom assembly for a while now. I do believe I am good to go so I'll torque it down as soon as I can find a few minutes:)

Hey, it's Friday guys, have a great weekend!:D

I think friscoboater had the same problem with the wires on his searay. I think he caught his after he tightened the transom assembly down. Definatly something to watch out for.

No kidden, I musta missed that. Yah, I am really glad I caught it before I cranked it down. I tugged on em and thought all was good and just happened to barely spot that little loop back there, whew.

Not sure what you were thinking on for colors on the Islander,...I seem to remember blue as a choice,..

Anyway here is a blue one for sale, Just to give you more ideas if you don't have enough already,...lol,...

Yup, navy blue will be the color of this Islander. Man, that boat is a beauty ^^^^^!!! Man, $18,500 - I am such a bottom feeder:redface: (course there is a new engine in there, prolly cost him $6500 ish just for that)

Here is some more inspiration:

Glad you caught the trim sender wires. Don't think you would be too happy undoing everything a few weeks down the road to fix it. UGH!

Yah buddy, I would have been awefully frustrated to pull that all apart after putting it all together:facepalm:

Thanks man, here's morning progress...

Transom Assembly - With just about an 1/8" gap between the gimbal housing and transom I squeezed in small bead of 3M 4000 (that's what I had on hand). I know some guys put it together dry, some guys go with some sort of adhesive. I decided the latter, I couldn't figure how it would hurt I suppose. Kinda belt and suspender sorta deal to me anyhow. Then I cranked it down.

All locked on...

Like it:)

By the way, you guys are going to get some cell phone shots for a while ^^^. My camera tosted out on me this morning:facepalm:

Hey Jas. Did you move the Jet outside or are you still working the tight space between the transom and the back wall of the garage? Flying 4.3 coming soon? :D

Nope, not yet. I love that Jet but she really needs to move out. I need to put together some framework for the cover to carry the snow load that is yet to come before I can boot er out.

Yah, one step forward but I'll be making several steps back now. I need to take that gimbal housing all apart and replace the bearing, three bellows, and on...
