Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

I'll be winterizing this week!

Wow, that time already huh.

it never gets windy on Lake Superior.

Ha! Yah, I remember a day after a wind storm I was sea kayaking back to the main land in 8 to 10 foot swells. I was like...

..................................................................................... for a 6 hour battle to make it back. 10 foot wall of water over head while sitting in the trough, powerful.

I remember another day we headed out to Isle Royal - fog had set in, the lake was a perfect mirror. It was amazing, the largest freshwater lake in the world and not so much as a single ripple for the entire 56 mile journey.

Cheers buddy:)

Oooh I just now went back and looked at the 4 stroke and that seems like a helluva good deal. Looks like it's be easier to setup too since it has controls and all. The tiller you'd have to convert or walk to the transom to adjust throttle. Geeze, I'd prolly go with the four stroke - $675 seems VERY cheep.

Just saw that 4 stroke, it is one heck of a deal. Tough to get on and off though unless your a lot stronger than I am. My honda 8 just about kills me.

Buy the 4 stroke if you can get it. If you can't, that's a very nice Johnson 2 stroke.

In that case I definitely like the 4 stroke. Straight gas, less fumes and quieter. I don't know if that's true against the new 2 strokes. The newest i've owned is 1986.

Performance?

Well mc, what you see in that video right there ^^^^^ is it's peak. Hole shot stinks, fuel economy is terrible, top speed at WOT is 0 mph.

(not in the boat yet buddy, check back summer of 12 and I should have better info for ya:))

I know Jason has not had to refuel for about 2 years. Contrary to what he says, fuel Econ. is great. Hole shot is bad because the hole in the transom is huge, but not as big as it used to be. Updates begin again shortly after Black Friday after the Jet splash - Right Jas?
