Good work Jas I for one will rest easier knowing you put those screws in:) I hardly slept the other night having velcro nightmares. That trim piece really finishes it off looks really good.

big kudo's from out here!!;)

That trim piece really finishes it off looks really good.

Thanks boys!! Much appreciated!

OK, just a little more progress - started work on the cabin cushions.

Ripped them all out of the old vinyl...

This nose piece I had to cut off in order for my vinyl to completely cover the foam, wasn't quite wide enough otherwise...

I decided long ago that I'm not going to sew vinyl around the cushions with piping and all that. I'll simply be wrapping and stapling to backer board.

So, then I cut out and sanded all of the backer boards...

You'll notice I cut them just a bit smaller than the foam. I am hoping to have a nice, round wrap over the edge with the vinyl.

One step closer:)

I did the same on my SS. The little bow cushion covers the foxhole and is only held in place with 10" of velcro. Works great!
My uphostery guy said to leave the foam 1" bigger all around so the edged come out good. Looks like your on the right track. Looking good!!

My wife wants to ues the tempure pedic material for our new cushions in the Chieftain. Should be nice.

Vinyl is looking good along with everything else!

Is the vinyl you're going to use for cushions different than the vinyl you used on your side panels? I would assume yes, but just wanted to ask.

Thanks buddy!

Nope, same stuff actually.

For my cockpit combing I am considering spending the extra money on pleated material. It's double the cost, but man, that would be really sharp. Hmmmmm..... It's hard being a bottom feeder sometimes.

Nice Job Jas, looks like you got it under control as usual. That pleated material is nice but real spendy. Mind you because we are running I/O the money we save we can probably spring for it, Right EZ

Not sure if you have access to one but my neighbor does upholstery work. He showed me a trick were he takes a clothes steamer and goes over the foam with it. The foam puffs right back up and the corners came right back to square.

Yah, I am attempting to justify spending the extra $$ as I used sand/rusto on my deck vs. DuraBak and soap bottles vs. legitimate flotation:eek::D

Plus I only need 4 yards:)

That foam there is actually really nice firm stuff! Prolly more comfortable than the bed I lay on every night:rolleyes:

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Ok, little progress...

I know that keeping tabs on my thread is like watching paint dry. I hate to disappoint so here are my cabin cushion backers, paint drying...
P1050854.jpg

While those were drying I turned my attention to some other stuff that has badly needed to be completed.

More trash going in the boat - I have had these heavy aluminum road sign reflectors sitting in the shop for years...
P1050850.jpg

I wanted to beef up my stern deck so here is what I did with em - clamped them in my vice, applied some heat with the Burnzomatic, and bent them to match the angle with the transom. Here they are sitting next to a newly fabbed pair of stringer to transom angles. The old ones were starting to crack. Sanded, etched and primed...
P1050851.jpg

I shmeared PL on the mating surfaces of the deck/transom to eliminate any vibration and keep water from getting in between. Short end went under the deck and installed with stainless...
P1050852.jpg

Here they are next to the stringer to transom angle connections installed...
P1050853.jpg

I don't know if any of that makes sense - basically stringers/transom/deck is all connected together making for a nice solid setup, eh:D

I'll hit all that with a couple of coats of paint when the PL cures so it looks finished.

Hope yall are having a great Memorial Weekend!

Holly cow Jas, talk about building bullet proof, and on the bottom feeder budget as planned. Looking good.

You betcha my northern neighbor!

All that up there was free stuff, uber heavy scrap alum for the stringers, junked alum signs for the deck, ss all came from the sacrificial Baja, sure enjoy making use of free gear:D

I did have to buy the PL, but it's all good, it didn't take hardly any out of the big tube. I do love the PL:)

Re: 1976 22' Starcraft Islander Rebuild

Well guys, I just got back from a bunch of Memorial Day family fun.

I'll be honest, as I headed home I was terribly jealous seeing all those boats on the road today. I am sure those guys had a grand time on the water over the weekend. Seeing those guys with their "water ready" boats out and about was like watching a bunch of kids eating ice cream while I'm there empty handed, rats!

Ah well...

Here's to all the guys in the iboats "dry dock"...

Our day will come fellas!

Our day will come!!:):)

Have a great Memorial Day everyone!

Hey Jason same to, we had our long weekend last weekend. I know what you mean about jealousy. I have a boat ready to go but can't get to the lake till it stops raining up here. I went out two Sundays ago with just the pickup to see what it was like at the lake, it took an hour at the car wash to get the mud off. We have about 30 kilometers of gravel (mud) roads to contend with.

Great work man. You're spending all the money in the right places and getting great deals along the way.

Thanks for swinging through fellas! Yes, even you KW:)

All right, so I took a run at my cabin cushions. I woke up waaayyyy early in the morning, all excited to get them wrapped up in order to have the cabin completed. I really wanted to cross that off my list, ya know.

Fail. Check it out...

I think my biggest problem with this work is to keep a nice even/consistent pull all the way around these fat cushions while stapling. To look good/finished the vinyl would have to be tensioned properly all the way around the piece. My skills were not up for the task.

Ah well, it'll look about 100x better with piping and sewn up properly. All that will go to the back seat for now though. Sewing strikes me as a winter time sport.

Summer time is for installing marine engines, and hull painting:D

Morning Jason, upholstery can be a real pain in the you know what. When I was a kid my parents had there own out of the house upholstery business. Dad did the assembly and Ma did the sewing, I can remember some pretty colorfull heated episodes coming from them.
