Sorry, the cold pretty much shut me down. Even with the heater, I was not going out there. One more cut tomorrow and I'll start epoxy.

Check your epoxy specs for working temps. Weekly forecast shows it getting down in the teens next week.

I was thinking of doing the noodle idea for my foam. Does anyone know ho many I will roughly need?

I stuffed 70 of them into my 18' I would honestly just go the sheet foam route from Lowes Or Home Depot.

Well, warmer weather motivates me to work! A week off and I plan to get as much done as possible!

don't put noodles under the deck; they absorb water over time. better to go with expanded polystyrene foam (the blue or pink stuff) for below deck.

glad to see you're getting rolling again!

I think foam board is cheaper in the long run and you get more flotation with the board.

Most epoxy requires temperatures of 60 or higher make sure to check the specs. Its coming along quite nicely

I disagree that noodles soak up water. However I do agree that foam board offers better flotation. Nice job on the deck boards.

Re: 1974 starcraft 16 ft super sport

It was 60+ yesterday so it is all good. I have decided to go with foam sheets rather than the noodles. A lot still to do before the weeks over! Flipping the boat tomorrow for stripping. I have opted to try a recommended stripper and see how it works, only bought a pint before I went all out. If it works Ill post it for you guys.

I did have a question, For my flooring, I was planning on using Nautolex but can not seem to find it other than on ebay. any suggestions on where I should be looking? Better yet, are there any alternatives that may cost less?

Also, someone told me I needed special glue for nautolex but I cannot remember what was special about it.

Lastly, I was going to start the paint for the trim and consoles, I looked at Rustoleum pro enamel oil based. any other suggestions? they don't have the colors I want.

Thanks in advance,

Jason

Ace hardware's Rust Stop can be tinted by Ace stores that are equipped to

What color? Might buy a gallon of 1 for a base & a couple different pints (do they still sell pints?). Or 3 quarts to blend together.

PM your way for the nautolex

I think the biggest issue with ANY closed cell foam is leaving a completely clear channel at the lowest point in the bottom/bilge so that any water can run to the bilge pump location. Even if you have a clear channel you need the equivalent of limber holes in any of the side pockets/areas so that water can easily run into the main channel.

This is next to impossible with pour in/self expanding foam as it is designed to fill all voids. I would never lay sheet foam on the bare hull. you want to space it up at least 1/2" so that water can run under it Same is true for a fuel tank. It should be spaced off of the hull.

Defender.

I used the Nautolex adhesive. Yes it is expensive but it works really well.

so the "special" adhesive is a non-solvent based adhesive. any suggestions that do not cost $90 per gallon?

I used latex base Lepages contact cement, sprayed out of a $20 syphon gun and it worked great. No smell and easy soap and water clean up.
