Sorry I have been distant; Thanksgiving and Christmas have gotten the best of me! I am about to flip this boat and start the stripping. I am looking into the sharkhide and am seeing reviews that say it makes a dull finish after applied. I am looking for the high gloss finish for the hull, should I be looking elsewhere for a different sealant?

Hey anders, check out Caswell Plating.com and Inmotions thread on his Falcon. He is already using the Caswell system and I will be as soon as my kit arrives. I also found the Shark hide system not a shiny as we wanted on the Naked Lady.

We hit about that here. I did not want to clean the inside and have a sheet of ice to melt after I was done. Heater or no heater, I still have to clean it outside.

I know, nothing too exciting but got the goop on. Soon as it drys I'll do a second leek test. Then flip and strip.

There were a few spots that had excessive pitting. Cleanedthem out as best I could and filled in with goop. I'm hoping that should fix the issue.

The goop I use is called "goop" and is made by coat-it. They come in increments of 2 pounds. So 2#, 4# and so on.I used the entire contents of my 2 pound kit. Any bigger then 16ft I would go with the 4# kit.

Re: 1974 starcraft 16 ft super sport

A 2# kit comes in a quart paint can but is only about half full, and a pint can of hardener that is about half full as well. Total amount after mixing comes to just shy of 3/4 of a quart. I like smaller increments of it because the mix ratio is 7 to 1. With the smaller sizes, I am not worried about mixing it right or it hardening before I have coated everything.

I think it's actually a product called Coat-It made by GOOP:

the only thing I am saving is the wheel. I attempted to get the cable off the arm that attaches it to the motor. NO DICE! I think it is a rotary style. Ill try and post a pick of it.

You need to pick a system 1st, then measure per their directions, if you're replacing everything from the wheel to the motor. Depending on what system you use, you might get luck & be able to reuse the transom clamp assembly that's grabbing the steering cable in this pix:

And make sure the motor connection will work w/ your motor.

Most steering system makers have the instructions for measuring for their systems online.
