Re: 1974 starcraft 16 ft super sport

i took the liberty of doing a little research on the CBP (Customs and Border Protection, aka US Customs in the post 9/11 era) web site, and found nothing that even suggested you couldn't bring it in, unless it qualifies as a Canadian cultural artifact. here's link to their page: Prohibited and Restricted Items - CBP.gov

you can contact them in advance to check, or just bring it and answer all Qs honestly (false stmts at border are big no-no and can be charged as felony). the worst that would happen is that you'd lose the cost of the stuff if CBP seized it. my suspicion is that it may not be imported not due to any legal restrictions, but just due to the amount of biz not being worth the hassle for Home Hdwe chain.

I suspect if you answer any questions truthfully, I doubt it be a problem to bring a couple, 4 btls back w/ you. 6 or 10 cases, yeah, I suspect you'll have some problems.

Be sure to use the word PAINT in front of stripper while talking w/ the border patrol. They might get extra inquisitive if you tell them you picked up some strippers in Canada and wanted to bring them across to the US... :watermelon:

So, I saw a post somwhere on here that said break fluid works wonders. I have not tried it but I work at a dealership and am going to bring some home to see how it works. if it is just as good ill let you know.

i wouldn't use brake fluid for a # of reasons. it does sort of melt paint but a product designed for the job will do better at getting it completely off, and the glycol runoff pollutes groundwater (stripper is usually neutralized by water) just like if you poured used brake fluid or coolant down the sink. your grandkids will thank you for not doing this.

Good points! Off to Canada I go! I might have to watch The Great Outdoors so that I am prepared! I don’t want to look like a tourist!

Good looking boat Jason! My SC and trailer are the same exactly...even that crappy baby blue ;) Good work so far! Keep it up.

On another note, that paint stripper is saweeeet! LMK if you go across the border!

Jason... this is what you'll need to look like in order to "blend in".... :)

No colored clothing either... everything is in grey once you cross the border! :)

Thanks for the tip. I am worried about the contour of those. Do you think they will follow my bow line?

Also, sorry for the delay in updates. I am playing the waiting game. Marine grade plywood-on order; Goop- on order; safe strip on "order" (relatives bringing it over next week.)

Re: 1974 starcraft 16 ft super sport

Depends on what length & model BF they came off of. If it's a bowrider, I think it is, they should fit really good if they came off a 16ft'r....

Don't know how long you need them & I don't remmeber if the pix posted on the ad show their length well enough to know how long they really are.

BlueFins & SC's are extremely similar, almost identical construction & types/sizes of models.................

Hey Jason,

Glad to hear you will be getting a "delivery" from the country that popularized the word "eh"! Sounds like things are rolling along.

Take care,

Re: 1974 starcraft 16 ft super sport

I changed my trailer to having a swing-away tongue about 6 years ago...
came with a kit to locate where the holes should be drilled to bolt on the hinge....
The hinge I have has the bolts on the side...they get in the way of how far you can swing the
tongue to the side...The newer style has the bolts on top and bottom...
Works great....the kit I got states it can save you 21 inches when you swing the tongue back...
My kit had come with everything from the hinge forward........

That hole was not created from ripping the floor up. There was another board on top of the hole screws to the old wood. Cleaning, inspecting and hopefully sealing the rivets today.
