I feel for the both of you guys on the painting issues. That's probably my least favorite job in the world (other then grinding fiberglass it seems)! I've always had good luck with using Kilz as a primer and Behr paints (HD).

Well, kindof a sad update but much overdue. This resto has been such a major part of my life over the past 6 months that I never went a day without at least checking up on others who were more motivated than me on iboats. The past month has been zero boat. With the baby and cold weather hitting the boat has taken a leap past the backseat and into the trailer being pulled behind the car:p. I always intended to put the hull to bed for the worst of the winter but I didnt intend on doing it so soon. I now have to finish the last two rooms in our house, the master bath(important now that we will be using the spare bath for the kid and in laws) and of course the babies room! I will be having the machine work done on the motor this winter along with getting it put back together. I also have all the templates for the interior to make into new pieces. Hopefully my wife will still hold up to her end of the boat bargain and actually complete the foam and vinyl for the bow seats and gunwales. I guess being pregnant kinda gets her off the hook...

So, I placed the glassed deck boards into the shed out back and went to work on pulling the boat out of the garage and building an inner structure out of PVC so that I dont have to have the cap on to put the cover on. THis way if I get a wild hair and some nice weather I dont have to get a bunch of guys over to pull the cap and all that. just take the cover off and go at it. Then the terrible job of cleaning the garage after May-Oct worth of grinding, wood prep and glassing. WOW what a wreck! I have the deck final glass covering already cut out so that was carefully rolled up and placed in a cabinet. Is there anything you need to do to store epoxy? So, here are some pictures. She sure looks cold and lonely doesnt she?

Well at least you aren't stopping work on it due to some negative event! In fact, quite the opposite. Now you'll have a little boating buddy to share it with. My son is 2 and has only been out on the boat a couple times but has enjoyed it. Next year will be the first year he really gets involved and we're looking forward to it. Good luck with everything you've got coming up!

Ironically I just did the opposite of you. I had a parking space rented to store the Jupiter in for the winter, but I actually just a few minutes ago emailed the guy and told him I won't be needing it as I've sold the Jupiter and the SS is going to be worked on in my garage this winter!!!

I have a 1973 wellstar as well.

I was wondering how he ran into the height issue? He's been inactive for two months so not expecting a response from him.

Hey fellas! Been a while...but with all the craziness I have had going on since last fall I havent had the time to fart around on the internet.

First I will give an update on the boat. The only thing I have done is watched the weight of 20" of snow buckle my home built pvc structure:rolleyes: ripping my cover to pieces in the process. Thats it.

Now for the reason. As I told you guys my wife is pregnant with my first child(a boy!) we have tried for 8 years with all kinds of troubles. This time has been no different...except she is still pregnant 29 weeks later! The baby is doing well but my wife has not fared so well. First it started with her nearly giving birth at 20 weeks which would have certainly ended my sons life. We were just going in for a routine ultrasound when the ob checked her cervix length and found that it was shortening rapidly so he sent us to a high risk doctor who did some tests and rushed her to surgery to stitch her cervex closed to keep it from dilating and allowing the baby to be born. This is called a cerclage.

So now that my baby is locked inside we have a 50/50 shot of going full term. Not the best odds but it had to be done. The kicker is that she was put on strict bedrest for the rest of the pregnancy which means she cant do anything except go to the bathroom. No work, no income. Thank god she took out a aflac policy for short and long term disability which allows her to bring in 80% of her pay.

Now the kicker is that a few days into being on bedrest, she developed gall bladder disease which made her vomit uncontrollably and experience the worst pain one could imagine. Needless to say we end up in the ER where they tell us that she needs to have it removed. But, cant do that. With having the cerclage any surgery requiring anistesia will force her into labor. So the only thing that she can do is be on a NO fat diet. Now I dont know if you have ever looked at fat content on any type of food, thats nearly impossible. That and I am the one responsible for all the shopping and preperation of her meals due to her being on bedrest. On top of that I have to work all day with my herniated disk then come home and be househusband. Laundry, cleaning, shopping, cooking, everything...AND on top of that I am having to do our master bath remodel on the weekends so that when her family comes out from Colorado that they have a bathroom to themselves.

I have NO time for boat work!!!!! Damn it. But the weather is turning and as soon as the baby is born and my wife has healed from having her gallbladder removed, I am back on the boat full force.

Sorry for the long winded post but I thought I needed to explain my absence. Hate being away from this forum. Im gonna go check out everyones progress now! Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers!

29 weeks and everyone is still hangin' in there. Best wishes for all three of you. We'll be here when you're ready to get back to the boat.

There are some insanely good glass boat projects going on here right now. can't wait for you and Red to get back on it! I'm about 75% done with my aluminum boat restore.)

Hey chris how the hell have you been. Looks like we are the good side of winter. Did you see my new toy? I still got the thunderbolt now I dont need it or want it. If know somebody looking for one let me know. Nothing on it is interchangeable with the one on the boat.

I followed your project avidly for awhile before buying my boat! I have a 1975 airslot. I had to replace the transom and the entire deck as well. I'm waiting on the upholstery shop now to put all the trim and seats back in. I cant wait to see how yours turns out when finished.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I still have a ton of work to do even after the seats/trim go back in. I need to sand the deck and I'm going to paint it with topside paint/anti skid. Then I get to start on the outside of the hull. That's probably going to be the longest/most labor intensive project left for me now.

Wow! that's a lot of work but looks great. I have a 74 model Airslot sport 165 I bought about 2 1/2 yrs ago, hopefully it will get a maiden voyage some time this week.
Hope all is going well with the pregnancy, My wife and I have been there, but now blessed with 2 wonderful kids.. it will be worth it and you will soon forget all the struggles it took to get there...
Cheers

Introducing Landen Eugene Hayes. 6lb 15oz healthy baby boy born on 6-24-10! After all the problems and dismal chances of survival and health, he was born just 1 week before his due date...THANK YOU and everyone else for your prayers. No way this couldve happened without medical intervention but above all Gods grace.

Since being born, the problems havent totally ended. He has severe acid reflux causing him to cry damn near 20 hours a day and just generally make life miserable for Kelly and I. After having him checked by a dozen specialists to ensure his health we have just had to learn to cope. Now he is 8 weeks old and starting to get a little better and of course we are learning to deal a little better.

Kel had her gallbladder removed this past monday finally and she returns to work tomorrow after being off work for the past 7 months! My back took a turn for the worse over the winter due to increased physical labor at work because of the economy, so I ended up going on disability in early april and will have surgery sometime in the coming months. So, in the meantime I get to play mr. mom/ babysitter! Cant wait...
